Juan Martin Del Potro takes care of Denis Istomin in straight sets on Tuesday at Queen's Club. Del Potro advances to the second round along with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a blowout winner over Michael Berrer.
(12) Juan Martin Del Potro d. Denis Istomin 6-4, 6-2
Playing his first grass-court match since Wimbledon 2009, Del Potro eased past Istomin in the opening round of the AEGON Championships on Tuesday afternoon. The 22nd-ranked Argentine had to deal with a minor thigh injury, but he battled through it and advanced after one hour and 22 minutes of play. Del Potro recorded six aces and two double-faults while winning 82 percent of his first-serve points en route to a clash against Igor Kunitsyn.
Although he dropped serve once during the first set, Del Potro made up for it with two breaks of his own. This week's No. 12 seed raised his level slightly in the second and always had more than enough to dispatch an error-prone Istomin. Del Potro lost a mere three points in his last four service games as he raced away from the 61st-ranked Uzbek. Istomin wrapped up his effort with four aces and he won only 52 percent of his first-serve points and 50 percent when he had to toss in a second delivery.
(5) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga d. Michael Berrer 6-0, 6-1
Berrer needed almost two and a half hours to get past Ryan Harrison 7-6(7), 2-6, 7-5 one day earlier, but Tsonga made sure his opponent had a much quicker day at the office in round two. Tsonga completely destroyed Berrer and prevailed in just 47 minutes. The 19th-ranked Frenchman fired six aces and saved both of the break points he faced on the way to a third-round meeting with countryman and No. 10 seed Michael Llodra.
Barely more than hopeless the entire way, Berrer won only a single game and took 12 points in each of the two sets. The 79th-ranked German won 40 percent of his second-serve points and--even worse--a shockingly-bad 35-percent of his first-serve points. Tsonga earned two breaks in the second set and served out the proceedings with ease at 5-2.

Ricky,
Ryan isn't progressing as quickly as I had hoped. He lost in qualifying again (to somebody I've never heard of!) this time at Wimbledon. Any idea what's going on with him?
