Tournament seed Alexandr Dolgopolov made a successful debut at the Gerry Weber Open, after rallying to oust Robin Haase in three sets. He is joined in round two by Philipp Kohlschreiber, who beat qualifier Cedrik-Marcel Stebe.

Seventh seed Alexandr Dolgopolov is through to the round of 16, having rallied to outlast Robin Haase late Monday. The 22-year-old Ukranian tallied nine aces and five service breaks, en route to a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 victory in an hour and 51 minutes. With the opening-round win, Dolgopolov improved his season record to 22-14.
He is scheduled to take on Philipp Kohlschreiber for a place in the quarterfinal.

Former finalist Philipp Kohlschreiber survived a difficult opening round, where he held on to defeat qualifier Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in three sets. The 27-year-old German converted four of 12 break points, through to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 success in two hours and 10 minutes. Stebe had trouble with his second serve, unable to win more than 36% of the points.
