5/27/11 12:47 AM | Cheryl Murray
Windy conditions made play tricky on Thursday, with Andy Murray pushed hard by Italian Simone Bolelli.
Andy Murray got through his second round match in straight sets, but it didn’t come easily for the Scot. Murray actually found himself down a break with Bolelli serving for the set. Murray’s superior return game and some shakiness on the part of Bolelli allowed the Scot to break back to force a tiebreaker. The world No. 4, who is better in the big points than Bolelli, took the breaker 7-3.
Bolelli, ranked 126 due to an abysmal season so far, was less competitive in the second set, mostly due to his own level dropping slightly. Murray continued to have trouble with the gusty conditions, which resulted in more passive tennis than he’s shown the rest of the clay court season.
Murray got in trouble again in the third set. The world No. 4 once again found himself down a break with the Italian serving for the set. And once again, Murray’s return game came to his aid in the nick of time.
Murray will play Michael Berrer in the third round.
