    Ferrer, Monfils move on Fellow seeds David Ferrer and Gael Monfils continued their respective runs at the 2011 French Open, after recording wins against Julien Benneteau and Guillaume Rufin. The players are through to the second round.

    (7) David Ferrer def. Julien Bennteau 6-3, 6-4, 6-2

    Seventh seed David Ferrer advanced to the second round, having ousted veteran Julien Benneteau in straight sets Wednesday afternoon. The 29-year-old Spaniard held 100% of his service games, through to a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory in two hours of play. Ferrer tallied 32 winners and four service breaks during the match.

    He is slated to take on Sergiy Stakhovsky in the third round. The 31st-seeded Ukranian defeated Kei Nishikori in the second round, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3).

    (9) Gael Monfils def. (WC) Guillaume Rufin 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3

    Ninth seed Gael Monfils won his 11th match of the season by virtue of his straight-set success against compatriot Guillaume Rufin. The 24-year-old converted five of 20 break points, en route to a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory in two hours and 38 minutes. An error-prone Rufin committed 11 double faults and 57 unforced errors during the contest.

    Monfils will face Steve Darcis in the next round. The Belgian qualifier took out Philipp Petzschner in round two, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
