The draw gods have looked favorably upon Andy Murray in this year’s edition of the French Open.
Unlike the rest of his colleagues at the top of the men’s game, Andy Murray doesn’t have much in the way of dangerous floaters in his section of the draw. Sure, he landed in the top half with perennial champ Rafael Nadal, but his quarter is about as favorable as a Grand Slam draw gets.
The other major seed in his section is Jurgen Melzer at No. 8. Granted, Melzer is perhaps one of the most ignored top 10 players ever, but the Austrian’s success has largely been limited to 250 level tournaments and the occasional decent run in a Masters event. A recent win over Roger Federer in the Monte Carlo Masters might suggest that Melzer has some more upsets in him, but it’s a bit of a long-shot.
Probably the most dangerous player in Murray’s quarter is Nicolas Almagro, who has been playing some good ball on clay recently. The Spaniard just won the event in Nice, but he rarely seems able to front up at the majors; he probably won’t be a serious threat.
The other question marks in Murray’s section are Milos Raonic, who has that monster serve, and the hot-then-cold Alexandr Dolgopolov. Either of these youngsters could be good for some first week entertainment, but Murray and Almagro should find their way to the quarters.

homos, just getting behind- the- sofa ready...patting the cushions and baking some snacks.....plenty of room here for u and other lovely Rafa fans...;)
deuce , 5/22/11 12:45 PM
Didn't cook anything yet today (is only 9:30 AM here--lol) but can I still join you deuce behind the sofa and cheer for Andy?
Got married and been travelling so being on here has been hit-and-miss. But still hoping for good things for Rafa, amazed at Nole, and hoping for Andy!
fan4tennis , 5/22/11 3:38 PM
Wow fan4t, many, many congratulations! Do hope u and your sailing surfer will be very happy together :)
u r always welcome behind the sofa, u know that, and I'll reserve u a prime place where u can just peak round the edge, but hurry up and get baking girl!
deuce , 5/22/11 4:02 PM
f4t, you got married!!!!!! Congratulations to both of you and hope you have a long and happy life together.
nadline , 5/22/11 5:00 PM
Thank you so much deuce and nadline! Am very happy but not baking much since we're on the boat alot. Am definitely still following Rafa (am disappointed he lost 4 times to Nole but I've always said Nole was a great player, as I have said you can never underestimate AndyM either).
Just told hubby the order you gave me deuce, and he just smiled and rolled his eyes. He just doesn't "get" tennis--LOL.
fan4tennis , 5/22/11 5:05 PM
fan4tennis - many congrats.
nole will be glad to see rafa and muzz in other 1/2. Although nole has been virtually unstoppable (cept against muzz) rafa still edges it in my expectations. but muzz getting gradually better on clay every year. one day ....
go muzzzzz
alex , 5/22/11 10:00 PM
It is a pity Rafa and Muzz are on the same side. I would have loved a Rafa/muzz final.
holdserve , 5/22/11 11:24 PM
f4t: Congratulations and best wishes to you both for the future. I have to say your lifestyle makes me green with envy ;-)
ed251137 , 5/23/11 10:06 AM
Congrats fan4.... best luck:))
... nice to see, for once, that Muzza has easy way...
As I can remember... last few GSs his draw was devastating. Muzza and Rafa....wooow... it will be pure pleasure to watch:)
zare , 5/23/11 12:48 PM
i agree, a rafa-murray semi would be very interesting. especially since murray seems to be hitting his stride.
congrats f4t :)
mriiidula , 5/23/11 1:21 PM
Allow me to add my congratulations to the list of other well-wishers. WIshing you many happy years, f4t. :)

Deuce: Be a sport and pop out to Ikea and get another sofa - there's never going to be room to squeeze all of us behind the one you've got.
ed251137 , 5/23/11 3:04 PM
Just zipping off to the shops now ed. I'll get a king size sofa in a nice soothing taupe shade, I think. Also do hope Mrs Newly Wed has started baking, I know there's gonna be loads of hungry folk behind the sofas demanding snacks! lol this reminds me of that Monty Python sketch about "Edward Two Sheds Jackson"...;)
deuce , 5/23/11 6:18 PM
Personally I wouldn't bet on Mrs N-W showing up: she'll be far too busy lounging on the foredeck in her bikini working on her suntan. Plus Mr. N-W is unlikely to give permission for her to jump ship just for a tennis match ;-) Do you all like carrot cake? If so I'll make a couple to keep us going.
ed251137 , 5/23/11 9:17 PM
ed, I think deuce should wait till the end of the first week before popping out to Ikea for another sofa.
Except AndyM and Djoko, I doubt that anybody else could cause us to seek refuge behind the sofa.

holdserve, at the mo., Rafa fans seem as jittery as Andy fans, who of course are permanently in a Woody Allen state of high tension.....;) So actually it's absolutely packed behind both sofas at the moment, good job I got a king size ...so budge up homos your elbows are very sharp, pass the carrot cake cake ed and look here's Mrs NW with some lovely peanut crunch....But what's that noise? Goodness it's alex squashed underneath.........
deuce , 5/24/11 8:17 AM
I just came on here and realized that somehow I posted my comment twice. Sorry for that, but hopefully it will mean that fan4tennis will have twice the joy and happiness! :)
