Seventh seed David Ferrer is through to the second round at the French Open, after taking out Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets. The Spaniard is joined in round two by Stanislas Wawrinka, who rallied to oust Augustin Gensse.

David Ferrer advanced to the second round by virtue of his straight-set victory over Jarkko Nieminen Sunday afternoon. The 29-year-old Spaniard tallied 29 winners and five service breaks, en route to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 win in 85 minutes. Nieminen, who failed to earn a break point during the match, was held to just 9 points on the return.
Ferrer will take on Julien Benneteau in the second round. The Frenchman rallied to defeat Rui Machado in round one, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0.

Fourteenth seed Stanislas Wawrinka overcame a sluggish start during his opener, having rallied to upend qualifier Augustin Gensse in four sets. The 26-year-old Swiss committed 41 unforced errors during the match, but held on to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Wawrinka collected 6 aces and five service breaks through two hours and 27 minutes.
He is slated to face either Thomas Schoorel or Maximo Gonzalez in the next round.
