The French Open draw ceremony was held on Friday and it put Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on opposite sides of the draw. Nadal is on course to face Andy Murray in the semifinals while Federer and Novak Djokovic are in the same half.
Andy Murray may be the most oft-overlooked of the top four players in the world, but he was dealt a far more favorable draw than that of his other three peers when the French Open draw ceremony was held on Friday in Paris.
In fact, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer could run into serious trouble right away in the first week. Nadal will open against big-serving American John Isner and is on a collision course with Nikolay Davydenko for the third round and Fernando Verdasco for round four. A highly-anticipated third-round showdown with Juan Martin Del Potro could be in the cards for Djokovic, while Federer has to begin his campaign against Feliciano Lopez.
Federer and Lopez just faced each other in Madrid, where the second-ranked Swiss survived an epic 7-6(13), 6-7(1), 7-6(7) thriller.
Murray, meanwhile, could not have asked for a better section. The second-highest seed in his quarter is a slumping Jurgen Melzer, and the most dangerous player--other than Murray, himself--is Nicolas Almagro; not a daunting task for the fourth-ranked Scot. Murray will, however, have to be careful if he runs into either Milos Raonic in the third round or Alexandr Dolgopolov in the round of 16.
If the seeds hold to form, quarterfinal matchups would feature Nadal vs. Robin Soderling, Murray vs. Melzer, Federer vs. David Ferrer, and Djokovic vs. Tomas Berdych. The semifinals would pit Nadal against Murray and Djokovic against Federer.

Looks like Murray could make it to the final.
numero , 5/20/11 2:34 PM
Murray has the easiest quarter in the history of Grand Slam tennis
RickyDimon , 5/20/11 2:43 PM
Looks like a Murray vs Fed final. ;-)
phoenix , 5/20/11 2:53 PM
SF:
Söderling - Murray 3-2
Federer - Djokovic 3-1
F: Federer -Söderling 3-0
bjawad , 5/20/11 3:08 PM
i think the whole tournament will go according to seeding, at least until the quarters.
mriiidula , 5/20/11 3:18 PM
you mean at least for the Top 4?
RickyDimon , 5/20/11 3:25 PM
Nadal and Djokovic have the toughest quarters.
atul1985 , 5/20/11 3:26 PM
More difficult draw for Djokovic: 3rd round Del Potro, 4th Gasquet or Bellucci 4th, quater Berdich, semi Federer and final Nadal.
pro59 , 5/20/11 3:34 PM
Fancy playing Isner in the 1st round, anyway I trust Rafa to get the job done.
Is there such a thing as a tough draw for Djokovic, he is unbeatable isn't he?
nadline , 5/20/11 3:37 PM
Djokovic having Del Potro,Belluchi/Gasquet to deal with earlier
sounds pretty tough, infact worse than rafa
atul1985 , 5/20/11 3:40 PM
Djokovic could seriously lose in the 4th round to Bellucci or Gasquet
atul1985 , 5/20/11 3:41 PM
Isner, Gonzalez, Monaco, and Querrey were all joking about Isner's draw in Dusseldorf just now (USA vs. Argentina doubles match)
RickyDimon , 5/20/11 3:49 PM
murray should make it to the semis spending half the time on court than anyone else in the top 4.
mriiidula , 5/20/11 4:10 PM
Apart from Isner which is always a lottery, Rafa's draw doesn't look too bad.
nadline , 5/20/11 4:15 PM
Isner is not always a lottery
RickyDimon , 5/20/11 4:25 PM
"Djokovic could seriously lose in the 4th round to Bellucci or Gasquet".
in best of 5? sounds like a wishful thinking to me.
rfzr , 5/20/11 5:00 PM
Djokovic could lose to Delpo. THAT I'll believe. Although I don't agree.
stu , 5/20/11 5:07 PM
I know Delpo's game in every aspect (I'm from Argentina), but there's no way he can beat Nole with their current forms.
Also, I can't believe most of you think Nadal won't make it.... Soderling beating Nadal ? Murray in the final ?
My god....
Emiliano55 , 5/20/11 5:46 PM
Ricky,
Isner is a hard court player, NOT a clay courter. Rafa will destroy him in the first round. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. An easy one for rafa.
Federer has Lopez, an excellent clay courter. This will be a danger and I am glad that federer was given a tough match against lopez last time around as if he hasn't learnt from that, well...
Murray, easy draw. But sometimes when this happens it works against him. Look at the first round he played (okay, on a hard court, but..), against Daniel who? no. 141 in the world, murray took him too lightly and lost. Murray needs to be 'roughed up' a bit early on, he needs to be tested on the red stuff.
Novak is incredible right now, the best player in the world, but playing in a grand slam on clay, with the amount of pressure he is under to overtake rafa, well, it will be interesting to see how he copes with it all. I think he will cope very well with this. He sees himself as no. 1 anyway. His confidence is sky high.
maxi , 5/20/11 6:02 PM
Okay..... stickign my neck out first..........
Rafa to win his sixth RG title...........this has nothing to do with me being biased of course............he will do it.
C'mon Rafa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
rafaisthebest , 5/20/11 6:08 PM
Delpo will not be able to beat any of the top-4 coming as he is from injury. I think he is taking part only to prepare for the grass court season and get some points and dollars by getting through the first two rounds where he is guaranteed to meet unseeded guys.
Nadal's is the toughest draw. Imagine meeting Isner in the first round and Soderling in the quarters.
Soderling has been the nemesis of number 1- and- defending- champ at RG for two years in succession. The coincidence is that again he is in the quarter of the defending champ-who-is-also-no.1. Will he make it third time running? Or will it be third time lucky for the no.1-cum-defending-champ-at-RG-who-has-lost-at-Madrid-in-the-final?
holdserve , 5/20/11 6:08 PM
Hmm, dunno about so called "easy" draws. Just seen Berdych lose pretty conclusively to Amalgro, about time he made waves. Also Sod against Golubev, of all people, looked awful. Dolgopolov looked impressive then faded against Hanescu. etc To expect Delpotro to challenge any of the top 4 is a big ask, who knows how his injury will turn out? The only player really on form is Nole, next Rafa, then possibly Andy, but Andy just withdrew from an exhibition with a groin something, so who knows?.
deuce , 5/20/11 6:16 PM
deuce,
andy just said he is feeling fine. It wasn't a groin injury, he said 'my body was feeling sore', reason why he pulled out of exhibition match. I think just precautionary.
Why are people worried about Isner v Nadal? it's just ridiculous. Federer is now regarded as an outsider, though he won't like that, he is. It's all about nole right now.
maxi , 5/20/11 6:29 PM
Nadals draw is just as easy as Murrays Davydenko is not the player he once was Verdasco has done nothing all year and Isner is a no body on clay who will trouble nadal? he has Daniel Gimeno-Traver in his half of the draw.

In the Roland Garros website yesterday they reported that
"Murray worry
Andy Murray was forced to cut short his morning training session on Philippe Chatrier court. The Scotsman was hitting with Japanese youngster Kei Nishikori when he suddenly seemed to feel a sharp pain in his groin on the left side...... "
Hope it is not serious.
About Nadal,
"Nadal in the house

Rafa's back seemed to be playing him up a little, and he was less than satisfied with the way he was hitting the ball, but there should be no cause for .."

holdserve,
just heard murray said, 'my body is just sore' reason why he isn't doing the exhibition - he mentioned nothing about a groin injury. Said he was feeling great, playing well, looking forward to playing matches and...when asked about the play of both rafa and novak he said...'I hope neither of them wins'.
Murray is feeling positive and it's about time.
tennis2011 is talking sense. Davy is not the player he was, and verdasco?
give me a break!
maxi , 5/20/11 6:44 PM
I thought maxi knew tennis. But all she knows is Fed worship. Lopez is more of a hard courter than clay courter.
More pertinent even than the fact that Isner is higher ranked than Lopez and has been in top 20 till Jan this year whereas highest rank was 20 more than six years ago, more pertinent is that Nadal is vulnerable to too tall people as his high bounce falls within their strike range.
But can we expect maxi to make a sensible remark?
If Fed loses to Lopez, it would not be because Lopez is dangerous but because Fed is in decline.
holdserve , 5/20/11 6:51 PM
Part of my above post is missing.
Second para:
whereas Lopez is ranked 41 and his highest rank was 20 more than six years ago, is that Nadal is....
holdserve , 5/20/11 6:55 PM
Davydenko isnt the player he once was. verdasco hasnt been in form all year he also has a tough 1st round match against Monaco, Isner isnt a clay courter Nadals draw is just as easy as Murrays before Quarters Soderling is the first obstacle of any kind in Nadals draw and sod hasnt been in form recently.

I think Rafa hasn't got anything to worry about. Davydenko is not the player he was a couple of years ago and is better suited to hardcourts anyway. Probably ditto Verdasco and despite his improved performance on clay, Murray is always susceptible to an early exit to a lesser seeded player.
Things may just start to be going for Rafa now with Nole having a real potential danger with Del Potro and Belluci. It makes possible now that early first time defeat that's needed to keep the no1 ranking.
I actually predict a Nadal / Federer final with Nadal coming through in four
lebsta2 , 5/20/11 7:32 PM
It will be Nadal/ Murray vs Djokovic.
holdserve , 5/20/11 7:48 PM
Hmmm... this time I feel kind a sorry for Fed.
Now it's 4.3 for Rafa... and when finally Fed equalize to 4:4... in finale Rafa will go ahead again 5:4.
...ofc... You know what am I speaking about... don't ya?
zare , 5/20/11 7:50 PM
Muzza Fed finale??? ... in Paris... it's gonna be a cold day in hell :)
zare , 5/20/11 8:01 PM
always love federer, holdserve, but realistic. It is you who isn't. To say that rafa has a difficult draw, or imply that he is in trouble with isner? are you sure you are a tennis fan?
ricky, after reading your comment:
In fact, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer could run into serious trouble right away in the first week. Nadal will open against big-serving American John Isner and is on a collision course with Nikolay Davydenko for the third round and Fernando Verdasco for round four...'
you implied rafa could run into trouble in the first week? give me a break. He is going to roll it and you know it. easy.
Isner has a big serve but not the movement on a clay court to outwit rafa.
you were saying holdserve?
zare, feel sorry for federer? why? the greatest player of all time has served his fans well. We are very proud to support federer, so watch your tongue.
maxi , 5/20/11 10:43 PM
Agree with Maxi re: Isner. Nadal will just push him aside with little sweat. Isner is not in a particularly great form, his serve is not so lethal on clay, and he really moves clumsily, won't be able to reach Rafa's shots.
As for DelPo, unfortunately, I don't think he can have the endurance for potentially long, grueling matches. He's just coming back after injury, he lacks preparation in terms of tough matches, he may be rusty a bit and wary of new injury (the last thing he needs). I hope he recovers fully but RG is not the stage he'll shine on :(.
My feeling is that Gasquet is trickier for Novak than Roger. I don't see him losing to Roger. Always thought he was unlucky to be constantly on Rafa's side which prevented him from reaching at least one or two finals there.
danica , 5/21/11 2:08 AM
Rafa has a tough draw in F.O this year,
Novak can easily enter in to finals, delpo can take maximum of 1 set, even Gasquet also cannot take more than 1 set ,
anji123 , 5/21/11 6:57 AM
Rafa's draw is tough? Not until the semifinal, where he'll most likely face Andy Murray or Almagro. Fed's should be smooth sailing all the way to the semi, Ferrer, Monfils won't best him, at best get a set. In slams Fedal are still way ahead of the rest and know how to pace themselves to reach the finals.
To me Nole's is the toughest draw, he has potentially all the big hitters in his draw - Delpo, Bellucci and Berdych. They may not beat him, they may extend him right up to the QF. Fed and Nole had not met this clay season, and it's highly likely they'll meet in the semi this FO. If Fed wins his matches relatively easily, then he'll have all the energy to deal with Nole. Fed had the varieities to deal with Nole; he doesn't play like Rafa did at Madrid and Rome, which were basically baseline game. Fed could play like his second set at the IW semi; or his WTF 2010; or even like he did against Rafa in Madrid or Gasquet in Rome, just cut down the errors.
In fact I won't be surprised that we'll have a Fedal final episode four here at the FO, and episode nine in overall slam finals. If the draw permits at Wimbledon, epidsode ten to follow. Some people may call this fat hope, time will tell whether it's fat hope/wishful thinking or not.
luckystar , 5/21/11 7:54 AM
I hope Fed won't reach another slam final.
It is really time for Nadal, Djoko and Murray to contend for slam titles.
True, Fed being lucky, could benefit from these in-prime guys tiring each other out and Fed could reach the final or even win a slam but I would not want to hope for it.
I would rather hope that Murray or Djoko win slams. Certainly, I hope that Rafa wins at least one slam this year.
holdserve , 5/21/11 8:44 AM
Holdserve, yes. It's novak's time, and I'm enjoying his battles, but it is still wonderful to support and watch our champion, Roger Federer who is taking one step at a time and looking great in red before going on the rampage at Roland Garros next week!
Though, Federer has not been able to win against Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic this year so far, he hasn't played that badly in my view. At least he hasn't lost to Novak 4 times in a row! Concentrate on that one! Roger has never been the favourite at Roland Garros, ever. Even when he was 2009 champion. The Swiss Maestro is fully confident (and he'll need to be) Federer still has it, but he needs to deliver it soon to stay right there in the when it heats up.
It's not impossible that an upset is on the cards. I hope so, would keep you quiet for a while, and yet the ongoing matches of rafa and nole provide entertainment for me too. win-win, the pressure is on no.1 and no.2.
I think rafa will regain roland garros for what it's worth, would be pleased if fed puts up a great fight. What more can we ask of him? He's played almost 1,000 matches in his career. That's phenomenal.
maxi , 5/21/11 11:01 AM
It appears that being No 1 doesn't mean much in the draws if No 4 could have a walk-in-the-park draw and No1 doesn't.
If Rafa could dispose of Isner tomorrow, then he will work his way through the others who 'play tennis' and not just bomb down aces.
nadline , 5/21/11 11:26 AM
morning nadline,
I dont think you can say that rafa has had it all hard this season. He has had some really fortunate and easier draws than others, playing his long time friend ferrer fairly regularly over the last 3 tournaments, plus when delpo retired, he had a walkover. Rafa has had a good season so far. He can't complain, nor can he or you complain about facing verdasco again? And Isner? in the first round? Are you really worried? You shouldn't be.
maxi , 5/21/11 12:21 PM
Rafa has the honor to meet Nole four times this year because both of them played up to their seedings. If Rafa didn't want the honor, and let Fed met Nole in the Madrid final, Fed might end up having the honor, ie lost to Nole four times in a row. (though I won't bet against Fedal in best of five sets matches at the FO). Rafa had met Ferrer twice, not thrice, this clay season and beat Ferrer in straight sets. The same Ferrer had met Nole in the QF at Madrid and Nole needed three sets to beat him, Ferrer certainly not an easy opponent, especially on clay. It's Delpo who opted out of the Madrid R3, not Rafa, so please don't hold it against Rafa. This clay season so far, Rafa had beaten Ferrer twice, Monfils, Murray, Fed, four top ten players, and lost only to Nole. Nole had beaten Rafa twice, Ferrer, Murray and Sod, among top ten players. Both Rafa and Nole are clearly the top two players this clay season so far.
luckystar , 5/21/11 1:05 PM

VAMOSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
rafaisthebest , 5/21/11 2:42 PM
lucky star, i'm glad you said that nole beat rafa 4 times this year, one of your buds here said it was 3. Honour? Not an honour to lose I think.
We are all fortunuate to be watching wonderful players right now, novak is truly the no.1 in the world player, but it won't be easy to hold that pressure or that crown, that's for sure. Ferrer is not an easy opponent, what you say is true.
Don't be so touchy, I'm stating a fact that rafa had extra rest due to the walkover from delpo who 'opted out'. I wouldn't have used those words. To be honest, delpo was very emotional at that time, he wanted to play rafa, just recovering from his injury to get another one was a terrible upset for delpo, he apologised to rafa and to the media for having to pull out. It was advisory for him to pull out, not really a choice. It could have completely derailed his chances of progress if he had continued.
Novak has beaten rafa 4 times overall this year, showing how much novak has improved.
yes of course, agreed that rafa and nole are clearly the top two players this season, but who is the no.1 player right now? It has to be novak, luckystar. That's not the same as being the favourite to win the FO, it's just the way it is, due to his exceptional start to 2011.
It's fed's turn to be under the radar, and I think murray is also in with a chance.
maxi , 5/21/11 2:53 PM
maxi, Delpo did opt out because he can't play without further worsen his injury. I don't mean it in a negative sense. I didn't dispute the fact that Nole is the no.1 player so far this year, but we are only mid way through the season, who knows what will happen during the rest of the season.. And who is to say that Nole won't suffer any loss from now onwards, and who knows who will beat who going forward? Until the year end no.1 is secured, just like it did for Rafa last year immediately after the USO, the no..1 position may change hand a few times within thus season itself.
luckystar , 5/21/11 3:15 PM
luckystar, opt out, suggests a choice. he had no choice. IDoctor's advices.I f he continued to play, he would have endangered his whole season/career. I think we are agreeing :D, and yes. anything can happen between now and the end of the year.
maxi , 5/21/11 4:00 PM

nadline , 5/21/11 5:08 PM
Nole IS NOT No1 and still he will have to do more if he wants to get it and especially if he wants to retain it...it will not be an easy task and to speak of Nole being No1 right now is PURE & SIMPLE LIE...wait until he deserves it and he still will have to fight hard for it...and with every single sunny May day, hot and dry as it will be, Nole will not get less tired that is for sure...so he will have to prove he can make it...and the FO path is LONG...
natashao , 5/21/11 5:35 PM
Yeah the rankings is the rankings. The bigger picture is still that Rafa has done better in the past 12 months than Nole (3 Slams>1)
torres9 , 5/21/11 6:13 PM
RITB and nadline. stay calm. Yes, Rafa is the no. 1 in the ATP rankings. BUT who is every one talking about right now? Novak. Switch on the tennis channel, and everyone (even rafa), is talking rafa down (he does this a lot, doesn't he?? Not only that, how can you argue that Novak isn't the BEST player in the world right now. Have you been watching his tennis? He doesn't fear anyone. It's great!
Nole, nadline, has always been my second favourite player. It's not about jumping on the bandwagon, the bandwagon is taken up by his countrymen. I wouldn't take their place.
And it's great he is pushing to get to NO. 1. May be he will, may be that won't happen, but he is trying and you should be pleased that rafa has more competition on clay.
Are you worried? DIdn't you say it doesn't make much difference whether No. 1, 2, 3 or 4?
It's a 4 horse race right now. Watch rafa play it down, always plays the underdog. I get fed up with this mind game all the time. Don't you?
Why do you say thank you? For what?

All we did was point out your lie........what's the matter, can't take it like a man or woman????
Say it after me.........Rafa Nadal is the current #1.........Nole has a chance (a chance) to overtake him..........there, that didn't hurt, or did it?
rafaisthebest , 5/21/11 6:53 PM
I think we should stop talking about the ranking now and concentrate on the French Open. Nole fans are low key now, waiting for things to happen, why are Rafa fans and Fed fans arguing about the no.1 ranking between Rafa and Nole? All I wish is for Rafa to win the channel slams again, the rankings will take care of themselves. I'm sure Rafa himself will be happier winning slams than be no.1 without winning any slam. I hope to see Rafa having as many slams as Fed or at least close to Fed's when Rafa retire from tennis. For me, I wish to see Rafa being considered one of the all time greats like Fed, Laver, Sampras and Borg, and in addition to that, to be the best player on clay in the history of the game.
luckystar , 5/21/11 7:41 PM
luckystar, if Rafa wins this RG, he will have 10 Slams and 6 more to go to reach Fed's 16. Assuming Fed doesn't win any Slams anymore, Rafa just needs to stay healthy and win 1 or 2 Slams for the next 4 years or so, and he'll be surpassing Fed.
It's a high probability that Rafa will end his career having more Slams than Fed.
torres9 , 5/21/11 8:22 PM
luckystar and rafaisthebest,
You are right! Why should we be arguing about who is #1? It's our guy Rafa and will be until it is taken from him! Please don't get suckered into this ridiculous argument about Fed being the GOAT or Nole being #1 before he has earned it.
I agree that we should let the ranking issue go and talk about what will happen at the French Open. It's slam time! Save your energy to cheer on Rafa!
Nativenewyorker , 5/21/11 9:54 PM
"A lie" is too harsh of a word for a different perspective. Sure, technically, Rafa is still #1. However, at this moment, Nole is the best. Period. Showed the most during this season, however short it is. Being now the talk of tennisworld, I am sorry to disappoint you Natasha :), but he'll be getting more prime time matches, just the way Fed used to. That means no more noon matches when on court temperature is something like 60C.
As for Rafa, he is already one of the greatest ever. Clay GOAT. Impressive career.
danica , 5/21/11 11:38 PM
danica, Don't know about prime time matches. Rafa has played alot of afternoon matches this season. There seems to be a rotation that the players move through.
maxi, You really missed your calling. With all the drama you exude you should head for Hollywood. Surely you could get a lead on the next "Housewives of Goofy land" or wherever it is that your from. I really don't mind your brand of smugness from someone who knows what they're talking about, but you're far from being a tennis expert. In fact if half of what you say has any merit I'd be surprised.
Maya , 5/22/11 5:57 AM
Ha ha, good comment, Maya!
holdserve , 5/22/11 6:33 AM
To all good Nole fans, I come in peace...........
I do concede that your guy is the better player at the moment, based on his recent results overall, and over my guy. I concede that he is the favourite to continue his run and win his first French Open Title.
However, I am tipping Rafael Nadal to win his 6th French Open title in 2 weeks time. I am saying this as a pragmatist and a fan. I am not going to bore you with reasons why I think so..........common knowledge.
And I think Andy Murray, not Nole, will give Rafa his biggest headache..........
rafaisthebest , 5/22/11 8:20 AM
I think Murray is soon going to hit a purple patch. Hopefully not in Paris as I hope Rafa wins at least one GS title this year.
holdserve , 5/22/11 8:38 AM
When you earn the #1 ranking, then and only then are you really the #1 player. It was that way for Rafa and so it will be for Nole. No one is questioning that he is playing the best now, but he is not #1 and that is a fact. He will be soon, but for now Rafa deserves the respect of being acknowledged as the #1 player.
I don't know why everything has to be such an argument here. It's funny how soon people forget that Rafa won three straight slams and had the chance to win four in a row at this year's AO. He also won the career slam.
I will cheer Rafa on and hope that he can win his sixth RG and tie Borg's record.

I recall a couple years ago Nole was breathing down the neck to Rafa, and Rafa was asked at the press conference whether he expected to soon be the No1 as he was always chasing Fed...Rafa replayed ?I am closer to be being No3 right now so I do not think of No1 at all?...so things change and although I admit Nole has been magnificent so far, until it is official and he actually steps on the No1 pedestal we, Rafa fans, should be let enjoy Rafa's current No1 as he had worked so, so hard to deserve it...Please do not blame us for enjoying the moment, we are very much aware it may end soon...
yeah, I agree danica, Nole will have more prime time night matches, but the players shift and everyone of them will have to have daily matches under the sun, there is no question about it...However, it is not that it matters a lot, I would say, as Nole is no longer having problems with his allergies and breathing, he has fixed it...
And for me saying it is a LIE to name Nole no1 before he has stepped onto it, I really was replying to this delusional Fed fan who I think enjoys bothering Rafa fans saying how she loves Nole being where he is right now...Nole surpassed her favorite, Fed?s decline started with Nole, and she seems to be ignoring it by saying Nole is No1...the truth is Nole pushed Fed behind, it all started with USO 2010 and Fed will go even more down mainly due to Nole being his nemesis...How in a world can she pretend that she adores Nole when we all know she will never be able to forgive him for what he did to Fed...so, I think with her false admiration of Nole she is only getting back to Rafa's fans trying to annoy us and provoking our comments...and yes, we should just ignore her...

I think Murray is soon going to hit a purple patch. Hopefully not in Paris as I hope Rafa wins at least one GS title this year.

Sorry Andy fans, but keeping my fingers crossed he hits his purple patch when Rafa is like........30 years old? Of all the players, Andy is the one I fear most as far as being a threat to Rafa is concerned, more so than Nole. Given Nole's recent purple patch you would think it should be the opposite..........but no, it's Andy who scares me ****less.
Once he sorts out the mental side to his game he will be trouble...........
rafaisthebest , 5/22/11 12:18 PM
dear holdserve, take it easy yourself. No lies. Who's playing the best tennis this year holdserve? I forgot. You don't like to mention Nole's name do you?
Can you read what I said above?
"Yes, Rafa is the no. 1 in the ATP rankings".
It's a fact.
Read the following holdserve:
swissinfo.ch: What do you think of the ?theory of decline? which pops up regularly in the media?
P.P.: I do not understand how people can write such things. Let?s judge Roger?s performances seriously, but objectively. On the courts, he has come up against four generations of players. Seven years ago, he was already the world?s number one. In 2011 and approaching 30, he is ranked third in the world but he continues to play extraordinarily. It?s unprecedented.
Between 28 and 30, it?s impossible to progress at the same rhythm as when you were 22 or 25. Put simply, others are progressing too and that is the charm of this sport. I have enormous respect for Djokovic and Nadal but even more for Federer because his longevity is incredible. He is very near them and always has a chance to beat them.
Repeat after me:
Roger Federer is the best player ever to play the game of tennis. Stay calm holdserve.stay calm. :D
maxi , 5/22/11 9:12 PM
maxi,
I have absolutely no idea why you addressed me in your above post. In my earlier post somewhere addressed to you, I had specifically said that I consider Nole to be the true No. 1 and he deserves the ranking. So where are the lies? I am not delusional either. Right now Nole is playing the game of his life and if he keeps it up, he may well end up achieving the calendar slam. This doesn't hurt me or disturb me.
If Rafa wants to be number 1, he has to play better.
It is a different matter that I love Rafa more than Nole and I love AndyM as much as I love Rafa. But, that does not mean that I do not accept that currently Nole is the best.
holdserve , 5/22/11 11:07 PM
But I do not accept that Federer is the best player ever to play the game of tennis. It is your opinion. It does not disturb my calm because I know all the 7 billion people on earth cannot be expected to think like me.
My opinion that Federer was lucky to amass so many GS titles because of a weak era disturbs your calm.
stay calm,maxi, stay calm.
holdserve , 5/22/11 11:13 PM
yeah holdserve is so calm, he/she needs to post posts on a tennis forum.
If you are calm, holdserve, all you need to do to show it is just stop posting and meditate on a rock or sth.
torres9 , 5/22/11 11:58 PM
I have reported you, torres9. Now it is up to the moderators.
holdserve , 5/23/11 3:35 AM
holdserve,
torres9 hasn't done anything! (stop being a sillymilly if someone disagrees with you! ) that's what backbones are for!
we disagreed on GOAT. Stop being so touchy.
stay calm. (I think that should become our motto!).
holdserve, how can fed be lucky: He's just brilliant. Only small minded people who don't understand or appreciate his domination could say something like that. There were plenty of great players at the start of fed's career who also made world no.1 and had a slam or two; because Federer was so great, they weren't able to accrue anymore, because of fed's talent, not through luck. And it is unprecedented that someone has been at the top of the game (including his current position of no.3), for 8 years. No one has ever been able to do so, showing the greatness of him and his talent.
As well as the FOUR generations of players he has been playing with, including rafa, novak, murray, soderling, delpo. You disregard their talent by saying stupid things like 'a weak era'. These players are in the greatest era ever and federer has spanned this for almost a decade.
If I said rafa was lucky to win barcelona, or rafa was lucky to get to finals, won through retirements or walkovers, what would you say then?
You have to take the rough with the smooth.
Tennis is tenacious isn't it!
maxi , 5/23/11 7:21 AM
rafaisthebest, when Rafa is 30 Andy will be 29 and well past it, so nooooooo can't wait till then! Most players peak 24-27 so Come On Andy, your time is a-coming! :)
deuce , 5/23/11 7:23 AM
AndyM's time has come. I hope he peaks at Wimbledon or USO. But he has to win a slam this year. He has to.
holdserve , 5/23/11 7:45 AM
holdserve, totally agree and am hoping Cahill's input will be significant. Don't want Andy to end up with either title, "The most talented player never..." or "One Slam Wonder.."
Am also hoping Nole's success will inspire/motivate him because he is as talented as Nole and also the same age.
:( :( :(
deuce , 5/23/11 8:25 AM
oops, meant sad faces after first paragraph, not second :)
