The United States and Argentina will square off for a spot in the World Team Cup final. Mardy Fish and John Isner will take the singles court for the Americans and will meet Juan Monaco and Juan Ignacio Chela, respectively.
In a rematch of last year's World Team Cup final, the United States and Argentina will battle for Red Group supremacy and the right to contest the 2011 title tie. The two nations are tied atop the foursome at 2-0 and a spot in the final could be clinched on Thursday with both singles rubbers on the schedule.
Mardy Fish and Juan Monaco will open the proceedings with their third career clash. Fish has won both of their previous encounters--one on hard courts and one on clay--but they have not faced each other since 2006. Both men are 3-0 so far in Dusseldorf; 1-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.
That will set the stage for a second singles rubber between John Isner and Juan Ignacio Chela. They just went head-to-head last week in Rome, where Chela dominated 6-4, 6-1. The Argentine also won their other meeting 2-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the 2008 French Open. Both players are also 3-0 this week; Isner has one singles win and two doubles wins while Chela owns two singles victories in addition to a doubles triumph.
In the Blue Group, meanwhile, all four squads are 1-1 overall. The host Germans will send Philipp Petzschner to the court for a showdown against Russia's Igor Andreev. The Serbia-Spain clash will be kicked off by Viktor Troicki and Marcel Granollers. The final two rubbers of each match will be contested on Friday.
