World No. 4 Andy Murray advanced to the third round in Rome, after surviving a difficult match with veteran Xavier Malisse. The Scot came through in three sets late Tuesday.
Fourth seed Andy Murray is through to the round of 16, following his three-set victory over Xavier Malisse Tuesday evening. The 23-year-old collected 9 aces and six breaks of serve, en route to a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win in two hours of play.
After splitting the first two sets, Murray led 2-0 in the decider. Malisse came back to 1-2, but lost serve straightaway to trail 1-3. The World No. 4 missed a match point at 5-2, then held three additional at 5-3. Murray closed the match on his 9th ace of the evening.
He will face either 15th seed Viktor Troicki or Potito Starace for a place in the quarterfinal.
