    Berdych, Gasquet advance to round of 16 Fellow seeds Tomas Berdych and Richard Gasquet continued their winning ways in Rome, after defeating respective opponents Juan Monaco and qualifier Igor Andreev. The two made the third round Monday afternoon.

    (7) Tomas Berdych def. Juan Monaco 6-2, 6-2

    Seventh seed Tomas Berdych defeated Juan Monaco for the second time in as many weeks on Monday, having upended the Argentine in straight sets. The Czech secured five of 6 break points, on his way to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in 90 minutes. By virtue of the second-round win, Berdych improved his season record to 23-9.

    He is scheduled to battle either lucky loser Jarkko Nieminen or Sergiy Stakhovsky for a place in the quarterfinal.

    (16) Richard Gasquet def. (Q) Igor Andreev 6-1, 6-2

    Sixteenth seed Richard Gasquet cruised through this second-round meeting with qualifier Igor Andreev in 61 minutes. The 24-year-old Frenchman, who improved to 6-4 over the Russian, tallied four aces and 5 service breaks during the match. Andreev was held to a mere 11 of 33 points on serve.

    Gasquet will take on either World No. 3 Roger Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the round of 16.
