Fernando Verdasco made a successful debut in Rome with a straight-set victory over Milos Raonic Sunday evening. The Spaniard is joined in round two by Philipp Kohlschreiber, who upset 13th seed Mikhail Youzhny.

World No. 17 Fernando Verdasco rebounded after a disappointing run in Madrid, having made his way through the opening round in Rome, 6-4, 6-4. The Spaniard leveled the series with Milos Raonic at 2-2, following two consecutive wins on clay. Verdasco held ten of 10 service games through an hour and 39 minutes of play.
He is next to face 5th seed Robin Soderling for a place in the round of 16.
Philipp Kohlschreiber def. (13) Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 6-2
World No. 45 Philipp Kohlschreiber earned his fifth victory over 13th seed Mikhail Youzhny on Sunday, having ousted the Russian in 94 minutes. The 27-year-old German converted 100% of his break point chances, en route to a 6-4, 6-2 win in the opening round.
Kohlschreiber will meet either veteran Michael Llodra or Feliciano Lopez in the second round.
