Roger Federer defeated Xavier Malisse in strait sets to set up a quarterfinal meeting with Robin Soderling
While this wasn't Federer at his absolute best, the Swiss man a had more than enough game to get past belgium's Xavier Malisse.
Malisse played with his typical hard-hitting playing style. In the first set particularly, the Belgian had some impressive return and forehand winners, but those shots were peppered with too many unforced errors. Federer secured the first service break to go up 4-2, but he handed the break back on a weak service game of his own for 4-4.
Malisse wasn't able to take advantage; Federer broke back again to take the first set.
The Swiss maintained firm control of the match in the second set. Malisse's groundstrokes continued to miss their mark. Federer closed out the match with a convincing 6-3 scoreline.
The win sets up a re-match of last year's French Open with Sweden's Robin Soderling.

He has better shot selection that he did in 2001 and gets into the heads of players a lot more - should normally be enough to get him past a slightly misfiring Soderling.

This Federer version from the past 2/3 months is the worst I've ever seen since 2001... I still can't believe how horrible he is playing. I doubt he can get past Soderling.
