Juan Martin Del Potro advanced to the third round in Madrid, following his comprehensive victory over Marin Cilic Wedensday afternoon. The Argentine is joined in round three by Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who upset Jurgen Melzer.

Former World No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro reached the round of 16, having ousted Marin Cilic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The 22-year-old Argentine converted five of 6 break point chances through just 64 minutes of play. By virtue of his second-round success, Del Potro improved to 26-6 for the season.
"I think it's the match we have all been waiting for in this tournament, since Estoril, they all kept saying that in the third round I was going to play Nadal and there were a few days left but I do know that I would like to have Rafa as far away as possible from me, and various other players as well," Del Potro said.

Qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver continued his run in Madrid with a straight-set upset of eighth seed Jurgen Melzer Wednesday evening. The 25-year-old Spaniard, who won just his fourth Tour-level match of the season, tallied 5 aces and six service breaks in 95 minutes of competition. Melzer struggled with his second serve, unable to win more than 30% of the points.
Gimeno-Traver will take on Michael Llodra in the next round. The Frenchman took out qualifier Flavio Cipolla in round two, 6-4, 6-2.
