(5) Florian Mayer def. Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-4
Fifth seed Florian Mayer advanced to his fourth career final, following his 6-3, 6-4 semifinal victory against fellow German Philipp Petzschner. The 27-year-old collected six aces and saved five of 6 break points, en route to a straight-set win in 73 minutes.
“I think I played one of my best matches of this year,” said Mayer, post-match. “I played really well, especially my serve was working really good; that was the key today.
“I go into the final relaxed. I know it is a good chance to win my first title, but I have nothing to lose tomorrow.”
(7) Nikolay Davydenko def. Radek Stepanek 6-3, 4-0 (retired)
Former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko made his second final of the season, as opponent Radek Stepanek retired with a left leg injury. The 29-year-old-year-old Russian had built a 4-0 edge in the second set when the Czech called it a day. Dayvdenko secured three of 11 break points through an hour and 12 minutes.
“I’ve already played so many finals, I have 20 titles, and I’m really happy to play another one, especially a second final here,” Davydenko explained. “Playing against a German player in Germany, it won’t be easy. He has the crowd support and he will play 100 per cent. I hope tomorrow I will play better than today, and that my foot will be okay so I can also play at 100 percent.”
