Andy Roddick may be sitting out the early part of the clay season and delaying his move onto the dirt until the last possible moment prior to the French Open.
But that doesn't mean the hardcourt American is not planning ahead as he enters events down the track much more a part of his comfort zone.
With more than three months to spare, the former Top American has announced that he'll play for the tenth time during the steamy summer days of August in Washington, DC, an event he's won three times.
The 28-year-old dropped from the Top ten, standing 12th behind compatriot and good friend Mardy Fish, 11th in the ATP standings. The Texas-based Roddick won his first title at Rock Creek Park in 2001 as a teenager and exited last summer in the third round with a diagnosis of glandular fever.
He last played a month ago in Miami, where as defending champion he went out in the second round to Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay. Roddick recovered his form slightly this season with a title indoors in Memphis.
