Grigor Dimitrov def. (4) Marcos Baghdatis 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-2
World No. 69 Grigor Dimitrov advanced to his maiden Tour-level quarter, after upsetting fourth seed Marcos Baghdatis early Wednesday. The 19-year-old trailed 4-6 in the second-set breaker, but fought back to win four consecutive points. The Bulgarian tallied 8 aces through two hours and 12 minutes of play.
“It was a great match, especially when I won it in the end. It’s just an unbelievable feeling,” said Dimitrov, post-victory. “I was two match points down and I found a way to get back up right away and turn the match in a way that I really wanted to.
“It’s my first quarterfinal so I hope there’s a lot more to come. It’s a great experience and I like the clay courts here. Roland Garros is coming soon so it’s good to build up a bit of confidence before the upcoming tournaments. I've got to keep my feet on the ground and just look forward. I really need to push myself to the limits and see what it has to offer.”
Dimitrov is slated to meet either fifth seed Florian Mayer or Teymuraz Gabashvili in the quarterfinal.
