    (3) Marin Cilic def. Simone Bolelli 7-5, 7-6(4)

Third seed Marin Cilic is through to the second round, following his straight-set victory over Italian Simone Bolelli. The World No. 21 collected 11 aces and saved eight of 9 break points through two hours and 3 minutes of play. With the opening-round win, the 2010 BMW Open runner-up extended his season record to 16-8.

Cilic will take on Horacio Zeballos for a place in the quarterfinal. The Argentine defeated Robert Kendrick in the first round, 6-4, 6-4.

(WC) Dustin Brown def. (2) Stanislas Wawrinka 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-5

Wildcard Dustin Brown reached the round of 16, following his upset win over second seed Stanislas Wawrinka. The 26-year-old German dug his way out of a set deficit to seal a 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-5 success in two hours and 14 minutes. Brown, who tallied 10 aces and four service breaks during the match, captured his second Tour-level match of the season.

“It’s unbelievable. Stan is a great player and it wasn’t the best draw,” Brown told ATPWorldTour.com.

“If you want to do well, you have to start beating these guys. My mom has been urging me the past couple months to believe in myself and actually believe I can beat these guys. I’ve had a lot of tough losses this year against guys like (Sam) Querrey and (Albert) Montanes, but I really felt like I could do this today. Even after losing the first set, I still stayed in it and I’m happy I pulled through."

He is slated to face veteran Radek Stepanek in the round of 16. The Czech took out Andrey Golubev in the first round, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
