World No. 6 David Ferrer made the final eight at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Thursday afternoon, having upended veteran Victor Hanescu in straight sets. The Spaniard recorded his 11th clay-court win of the season.
Fourth seed David Ferrer is through to the quarterfinal, following his routine 6-3, 6-2 win against Romanian Victor Hanescu. The 29-year-old Spaniard held nine consecutive service games without facing a break point. Ferrer, who captured 100% of his first service points, secured three of 6 break points through an hour and 5 minutes of play.
With the round of 16 victory, Ferrer advanced to his fifth straight quarterfinal berth at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
He is slated to square off against 6th seed Jurgen Melzer for a place in the semifinal. The Austrian rallied to oust 11th seed Albert Montanes in the third round, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-2.
