Tournament seeds Jurgen Melzer and Albert Montanes advanced to the round of 16 at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Wednesday, after posting wins over respective opponents Marcel Granollers and Benoit Paire.

World No. 8 Jurgen Melzer is through to the third round, following his 6-1, 6-3 victory over Marcel Granollers. The 29-year-old converted five of 9 break points en route to a second-round success in 83 minutes. Granollers captured just 45% of his first-service points and 36% of his second. With the win, Melzer extended his season record to 11-7.
The Austrian is next to square off against 11th seed Albert Montanes.

Eleventh seed Albert Montanes survived a tricky second round, having rallied to defeat qualifier Benoit Paire in three sets, 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-4. The Spaniard saved seven of 9 break points through two hours and 2 minutes of competition. After splitting the first two sets, the World No. 27 took two service breaks to win the deciding set.
