World No. 6 David Ferrer is through to the third round at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, after downing Carlos Berlocq in straight sets early Wednesday. The Spaniard improved his season record to 22-5.
Fourth seed David Ferrer eased into the third round with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over World No. 68 Carlos Berlocq on Wednesday. The Monte-Carlo runner-up passed through the match unbroken, having held eight consecutive service games through 91 minutes.
The Argentine endured a difficult day on serve, unable to win more than 29% of his second service points. Ferrer completed the afternoon with four of 7 break points converted and 14 of 20 second-service points captured.
The World No. 6 is scheduled to face Victor Hanescu for a place in the quarterfinal. The Romanian upended 14th seed Kevin Anderson in the second round, 6-4, 6-4.
