    Almagro, Ferrero advance in Barcelona Eighth seed Nicolas Almagro is through to the round of 16 at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, after taking out compatriot Pablo Andujar. Former World No. 1 Juan Carlos also advanced, having downed Xavier Malisse in straight sets.

    World No. 11 Nicolas Almagro advanced to the third round, following his straight-set victory over fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar. The 25-year-old improved his clay-court record to 16-2 this season, behind title-winning runs in Brazil and Argentina. Almagro tallied 8 aces and four service breaks en route to a 7-5, 7-6(1) win in one hour and 57 minutes.

    Juan Carlos Ferrero def. Xavier Malisse 6-4, 6-2

    Former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero made a successful return to the ATP World Tour on Tuesday, having ousted veteran Xavier Malisse in straight sets. The 31-year-old Spaniard recorded his first victory since the 2010 US Open, after undergoing both wrist and knee surgery. Ferrero converted four of 9 break points through 81 minutes of play.
