World No. 4 Murray is through to the semifinal at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, after taking out qualifier Frederico Gil in straight sets. He is set to square off against six-time defending champion Rafael Nadal in the next round.
World No. 4 Andy Murray made his second Monte-Carlo semifinal, following his routine 6-2, 6-1 ousting of qualifier Frederico Gil on Friday. The 23-year-old passed through the quarterfinal unbroken, having held 7 consecutive service games through 72 minutes.
Murray led 2-1 in the opening set, as Gil pushed a backhand long. The qualifier gave away an insurance break to trail 1-4, after erring with the forehand. Murray saved two break points at 5-2, then went on to close the set with an unreturnable serve.
Murray again went ahead 2-1, as Gil missed a backhand over the baseline. The Scot led 4-1, courtesy of a forehand miss from the qualifier. Three match points came quickly for the World No. 4, who completed the match with a forehand winner.
Murray ended the evening with 6 aces, 26 winners and five of 7 break points converted.
He will take on World No. 1 Rafael Nadal for a spot in the championship final. The six-time defending champion downed veteran Ivan Ljubicic in the quarterfinal, 6-1, 6-3.

Much though I'd love muzz to win, it's hard to see how anyone's gonna beat rafa on clay full stop. Just no bagels please.

Andy played great today. But of course he won't be able to defeat Rafa on clay. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how many games he can take off from the spaniard.

Andy played great but he was helped by Gil. Just looked at how Gil played against Monfils and see what Gil was capable of doing. Downing Andy Murray after a hard fought victory over Monfils was too much to ask for from a guy ranked in the lower half of the hundred in the rankings, even though Gil is a clay courter.
Well done to Andy though, no one expects such an easy victory for him after seeing Gil down the no.10 guy in straight but hard fought sets.

I personally don't think Andy is aggressive enough to defeat Rafa on clay.Rafa on clay is only perturbed by aggressive players. So I think Rafa in straights.
