Fernando Verdasco was given his walking papers in his first match of the 2011 Monte Carlo Masters by countryman Tommy Robredo.
Tommy Robredo def. Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 6-3
The bad news continues for Fernando Verdasco. In the 2010 edition, he defeated the likes of Tomas Berdych and Novak Djokovic en route to the final, where he was eventually bested by Rafael Nadal. This year, the struggling world No. 8 couldn’t even get past No. 29 ranked Tommy Robredo.
Robredo is a good clay-court player, but much of the problem for Verdasco was his own lack of form and his inability to hold it together in the big moments. Verdasco went 1 for 5 on break point chances against his serve.
David Ferrer def. Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 6-0
Spain’s David Ferrer had no trouble getting past countryman Feliciano Lopez in his second round match. The Spaniard, well-known for his excellent return game, broke Lopez 5 times in the brief 56 minute match. In the second set, Lopez won just 7 points of 20 on his own serve.
The win sends Ferrer into the third round where he will take on young Canadian star Milos Raonic.

Yikes ... Ferrer is sizzling.

Milos wasn't much better off on clay either. It's just that he was fortunate to bump into head case Gulbis, if he bump into Ferrer in the first match, he would also be sent packing. The draw does matter for all these players on clay, unless you are Rafael Nadal. Don't forget Robredo has a H2H of 5-0 against Verdasco, mostly on clay.

Verdasco, along with Gulbis, is the biggest headcase in the tour.
If he said this to Milos then he's even worse than I thought.

Didn't Verdasco say he'd give Milos a lesson on clay? Since Milos has done better than him on clay in his first clay Masters maybe Verdasco should seek some lessons for himself.
