Veteran Radek Stepanek is through to the second round at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, after rallying to oust Marcos Baghdatis. Florian Mayer also advanced, having held on to upset 10th seed Mikhail Youzhny early Monday.

Wildcard Radek Stepanek advanced to the second round in Monte-Carlo, after digging his way out of a set deficit against former World No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis. The Czech veteran saved match point at 5-6 and 6-7 in the final set breaker, going on to seal a win in two hours and 34 minutes. The 32-year-old completed the day with 3 aces and three of 8 break points converted.
He is slated to face World No. 4 Andy Murray in the second round.
Florian Mayer def. (10) Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 2-6, 6-3
World No. 35 Florian Mayer made his way into the second round, following his three-set victory over 10th seed Mikhail Youzhny. The German trailed by a service break twice in the decider, but came back to earn a critical break at 4-3. The 27-year-old, who moves to 4-3 lifetime against the Russian, ended the two-hour and 5-minute match with 4 aces and 7 breaks of serve.
He will meet qualifier Frederico Gil in the next round. Gil took out Sergiy Stakhovsky in the opening round, 6-1, 6-3.
