World No. 4 Andy Murray looks to regroup after a lackluster showing during the spring US hard court season, as he heads to the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters this week. The Scot is set to enter the 56-player draw as the third seed.
A struggling Andy Murray will be making his return to action in Monte Carlo, following a disappointing effort at the Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami. After reaching the Australian Open in January, the Scot has been unable to win a match through three tournaments.
Murray is a modest 6-4 for the 2011, by virtue of his runner-up finish to World No. 2 Novak Djokovic in Melbourne. He is slated to make his fifth appearance in Monte Carlo, where he made the semifinal in 2009.
The 23-year-old is located in the same quarter of the draw as (8) Gael Monfils, (10) Mikhail Youzhny and (16) Gilles Simon. Other players in the section include: Marcos Baghdatis, Thomaz Bellucci, Santiago Giraldo, Xavier Malisse, Albert Montanes and Radek Stepanek, who received a wildcard entry into the event.
Following an opening-round bye, Murray will have a tricky encounter with either Baghdatis or Stepanek. The nearest seed to the World No. 4 is Simon, who looms as a possible round of 16 opponent. Further progress through the draw will set a quarterfinal clash with Monfils or Youzhny.
Should Murray move into the semifinal, he is likely to face World No. 1 Rafael Nadal for a place in the championship match. Nadal has captured the title six times, having taken home top honors every year since 2005.
