Pablo Andujar defeated top seed Albert Montanes to advance to the finals of Casablanca.
Pablo Andujar def. Albert Montanes 6-4, 6-4
In a clash of the Spaniards, Pablo Andujar took out tournament No. 1 seed Albert Montanes in straight sets. This match was a study of service breaks, as can be expected in a clay court match between two baseline grinders. There were 8 service breaks in the short 2-set match and a whopping 29 break point chances. Andujar just kept his nose out in front in both sets enough to get the straight set win.
Potito Starace def. Victor Hanescu 6-1, 6-7(3), 7-6(2)
This semi-final was a lengthy two and a half hour affair with 8 service breaks. The first set was a walk in the park for Starace. He didn’t face a single break point and secured a pair from Hanescu. The second and third sets were epic struggles for both men. Hanescu won more points that Starace in both the second and third sets, but it was the Italian that pulled it out in the third set breaker.
