Montanes, Simon move through in Casablanca Top seed Albert Montanes and No. 3 seed Gilles Simon advanced to the quarterfinals in Casablanca.

Albert Montanes def. Filippo Volandri 6-1, 6-4

Spanish top seed Albert Montanes had a fantastic first set against Filippo Volandri. The Spaniard didn’t face a single break point, while securing a pair against Volandri. The second set was much more of a struggle for both men. Of 10 games played in the set, 7 of them resulted in service breaks. Montanes just managed to hold on to close things out 6-4. The Spaniard will take on Fabio Fognini, who advanced in 3 over Blaz Kavcic.

Gilles Simon def. Frederico Gil 6-3, 6-4

France’s Gilles Simon played an economical second round match against Portugal’s Frederico Gil. The Frenchman faced a single break point in the match that he was able to fight off. Gil surrendered just one break of serve in each set, but it was enough for Simon to advance in straight sets in an hour and 23 minutes.

Simon’s quarterfinal opponent will be Potito Starace of Italy.
