Italian clay courter Filippo Volandri defeated Julien Benneteau for the second time in a row.
Filippo Volandri moves into the Casablanca second round with a straight set victory over Frenchman Julien Benneteau.
The Italian just barely closed out the first set as Benneteau served to force a first set breaker. The two men traded 2 breaks of serve each before the Italian finally nabbed a third to take the lead.
The second set was not as closely contested. Though it was only decided by a single break of serve, Volandri never once faced a break point and he won 28 points to Benneteau’s 18.
The win was the second for Volandri over Benneteau. The two players last met on the clay courts of Rome last year, where the Italian was again triumphant in straight sets.
Volandri will take on top seed Albert Montanes in the second round.
