Andy Murray has lost a key member of his tennis coaching brain trust with the departure of Alex Corretja.
The troubled world No. 5 made the announcement on his website: “I have learned so much from being around him (Corretja) and I want to thank him for his hard work, enthusiasm, dedication and support,” said Murray.
The Scot is now facing the start of the demanding clay season guided by the ad hoc crew which has been his coaching staff since parting with Scottish coach Miles MacLagan last summer following Wimbledon.
Murray is due to play on clay in Barcelona next month and could possibly start a week earlier at the prestigious Monte Carlo event.
With reports that former great Ivan Lendl is in talks to possibly come aboard as coach, Murray's decision to split with Corretja with whom he's worked on a part-time basis since 2008, could be laying the groundwork for that move - or not.
Murray is fighting to emerge from another spring slump after losing a second Australian Open final in January. He was beaten for the second time in a row in a Masters 1000 opening match as he went down in Miami to American journeyman Alex Bogomolov.

Murray?s hurry to name coach for clay season
Hugh MacDonald
30 Mar 2011
Andy Murray was today sifting through the names of potential new coaches following his split from part-time consultant Alex Corretja.
The world No.5 is racing to get the new man in place as the clock ticks down on the start of the clay-court season.
Australian coaches Darren Cahill, Bob Brett or Roger Rasheed are all said to be in the frame. Former Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl is rated as a wild-card choice.
Murray is not thought to be looking for a coach to travel with him constantly but rather to offer specialised advice.
