Andy Murray has vowed to start repairing his game at the Miami Masters as the Scot works to escape a slump in the wake of a second straight Australian Open loss and an opening-match humiliation only days ago at Indian Wells.
"I want to do well here, it's obviously an important week for me," said the No. 5 who lost the Melbourne final to Novak Djokovic and then crashed out in California to American Donald Young. "Indian Wells was tough, because I didn't feel like I did myself much justice on the court.
"I don't mind normally, if you lose and you feel like you've given everything you can, you've left everything on the court. That's when it can be easier to get over the losses. But I was disappointed in myself last week."
Murray at least feel at home in the Miami heat after owning an apartment in the trendy Brickell area for the past three years. He uses the Latin city for training in the December off-season to prepare for the heat of the Australian Open.
"I do like playing here, obviously this tournament is hopefully where I start to play better again and have the right mindset going into matches. Last year here (opening defeat by Mardy Fish) was a pretty low point for me. I need to try and get better before the clay."

Good job I love the game first and foremost, isn't it?
deuce , 3/25/11 9:31 PM
Well, I *AM* all for concise reporting....but somehow I don't think 3 words is going to be quite enough. How about "Andy was a large pile of steaming cow excrement."

/sarcasm
I hope he gets his act together soon :)
SGHIceman , 3/25/11 11:18 PM
I think everybody should stop picking on poor Andy.
holdserve , 3/25/11 11:41 PM
oh, Gosh, he should get himself together...he needs a coach, he needs a therapist and he could use some confidence injection...I like Andy, he will be back for sure very soon, just needs some professionals to work with him... his mother is welcomed to stay at home...
natashao , 3/25/11 11:59 PM
OMG, how horrible for AndyM. something's wrong with him that he's not sharing. hope he gets over it soon; comms to Murray fans on another heart-breaking loss. Unless he opens up, we can all speculate on what he needs to do to right the ship.
juliette , 3/26/11 12:31 AM
Maybe wait for Ricky's match report and see what went wrong with Murray's game. How can Murray says one thing and do otherwise? Was this Alex guy that good that he breadsticked Murray? Or was Murray on self destruct mode like Rafa the other day?
luckystar , 3/26/11 2:49 AM
It's true that on any given day a lesser ranked player can play well enough to take out a top player if he doesn't bring his best. This was a qualifier, so Murray would be expected to be able to raise his game enough to get the win. It's not going to do his confidence and mental state any good to keep losing to these kinds of players.
My commiserations to the Murray fans. It just can't be easy to see him going through this now. I do believe that he can find his way out, but I think he needs some outside help.
Nativenewyorker , 3/26/11 3:13 AM
Bogomolov is not that great a player; he mostly plays WTT. Qualis are dangerous as they come into the tourney match-grooved, so it's understandable when a top player who's playing his first match to lose. It's happeneend many times.
juliette , 3/26/11 3:49 AM
holdserve - Normally, I would agree. Top players take too much heat for the occasional weird loss. But to lose back to back to Donald Young and Bogomolov is something much worse than just a weird loss.
Honestly, I think people are concerned. I don't think they're taking shots at him just to be mean.
cherylmurray , 3/26/11 3:53 AM
Bleacher report - Murray has hired Venezuelan Dani Vallverdu as his coach. brighter and better days ahead for Andy M.
juliette , 3/26/11 4:29 AM
juliette, that's Andy's "best friend" an inexperienced youngster. Not good news at all :(
Andy needs a "heavyweight" now, though God knows who!
deuce , 3/26/11 6:01 AM
Why is Murray turning down that Bolleretti's offer in the first place. It seems that Murray is in a self destruct mode where his tennis career is concerned. Soon, he'll not only be surpassed by Sod but by Delpo also. Can imagine being surpassed by Delpo, whom he had beaten every time save one.

Here is the DM report on the match:
More misery for Murray as British No 1 is dumped out of Miami Masters by world No 118

Andy Murray?s mental meltdown continues. The world No 5 last night lost his second straight match against a player outside the top 100 when he was sent careering out of the Sony Ericsson Open.
In a performance as baffling as it was feeble, Murray was beaten 6-1, 7-5 by obscure American Alex Bogomolov Jnr as his post-Australian Open form went further into freefall.
Two years ago, Murray won this Masters-level event and looked the best player in the world. Now he appears barely worthy of British No 1 status.

Defeat in the 2010 Melbourne final sparked Murray?s last slump, and history is repeating itself, although this time it is even worse. He has not won a set since the Australian semi-finals and, after losing in Indian Wells to the world No 143, he was equally bad in going down to someone listed at 118.
Immediately afterwards, Murray could not dredge from the recesses of his complex mind how this had come to pass.
He is meant to be playing doubles at this event with Novak Djokovic but could not say whether that high-profile pairing would materialise.
?I?ve been practising better and training hard but on the match court I can?t get anything going,? he said. ?I am p***** off. I don?t want to be playing like this. There was no intensity and my movement was so poor. I don?t know exactly what it is.?

Watching brief: Andy's girlfriend Kim Sears cuts a concerned figure in the stands as Murray slumps to another defeat
Murray was at pains not to blame the team behind him but it becomes more obvious that his coaching set-up needs changing, because other top players do not lose in such a pitiful manner. His only back-up in this tournament was his best friend and hitting partner Dani Vallverdu with his part-time consultant Alex Corretja absent again.
The term ?journeyman? could have been invented for Bogomolov, who ekes out a living on the Challenger circuit and, at 27, has only ever been as high as 97 in the world.
True, he did start the match mightily impressively, and Murray is so mentally weak at the moment that he can barely offer up any resistance when the slightest thing goes wrong.
Bogomolov played well above himself in the first set but was no better than his ranking in the second, which is a measure of just how bad Murray was.
Surprise: Bogomolov Jr booked his place in the third round with a straight-sets win over the British No 1
Surprise: Bogomolov Jr booked his place in the third round with a straight-sets win over the British No 1
The Scot was broken three times in the first set and looks like a man who has forgotten how to compete. The second set went as far as it did only because, at 5-3, Bogomolov was overcome by nerves.
Luckily for him, Murray then started slapping pathetic forehands into the net and kept trying backhand drop shots that seldom worked.
Not far off his 24th birthday, Murray?s career is back in crisis for someone with Grand Slam ambitions. He is in dire need of rescue.

i think rafa and nole should go to andy and SLAP him...slap him so hard that he comes back to his senses and plays like a champion that he is.....i was stunned to see the result today morning.....still shocked
vrael , 3/26/11 10:02 AM
I'm beginning to feel that us Andy fans must face the unavoidable truth, that his career peaked two years ago when he briefly reached no 2 in the world. He won Miami then too. Andy's well documented stubborness may prove the undoing of his fabulous talent. It's a terrible shame :(
Meanwhile, giving yo all a wave from the top of the Nole band wagon. My the views are mighty fine, just leaning over now to help alex up.........;)
deuce , 3/26/11 10:28 AM
I can't help but think that both Fed and Rafa have ruined Murray's career. Both have beaten him in slams, Fed at the USO and AO, and Rafa at Wimbledon. Just when his confidence was sky high and then he came crushing down to earth when he met them in the slams. When Murray thought he played one of his best matches of his life last year at WTF, he was still beaten by Rafa. When both Fed and Rafa were out of the AO last year and cleared the way for him to win his first slam finally, he met with an up and surging Nole. I think Murray can only win a slam, most likely Wimbledon, when both Fed and Rafa are no longer competing, as I see him as the third best grass court player around(Roddick when in top form as in 2009, can be better than Murray on grass but since 2009, Roddick had not found his top form on grass). On the hard courts, there're Nole and Delpo. Delpo will be getting better and better and I'm not sure Murray can still contain him with Murray's style of play.
If things still carry on like they are now, then I think we have to wait a long time for Murray to win his first slam, most likely at Wimbledon. I'm not sure Murray himself has the patience to wait that long.
luckystar , 3/26/11 12:31 PM
I must add that Murray was unfortunate that for his route to both his USO 2008 final and AO 2010 final, he had to face with first Rafa and then in the final, Fed. Nole was fortunate that he need not defeat both Fed and Rafa in the same tournament en route to his slam victories. The one time that he had to meet both, at the USO last year, he failed to beat one of them.
Nole seems a much tougher guy and full of self belief, more so than Murray. Despite suffering so many defeats at the hands of both Fed and Rafa, he still keeps working hard at his game and never gives up. I hope Murray learns something from Nole, the way Nole handles defeats and keeps coming back again better than before. Even Delpo, after suffering that humiliating defeat at the hands of Fed, in AO 2009, where Delpo only won three games, came back strong and reached the semi of FO and then went on to win the USO 2009. Murray shouldn't give up!

I can't help but think that both Fed and Rafa have ruined Murray's career.
luckystar , 3/26/11 12:31 PM
I think it's all Nole's fault, he's gone in the night whilst Murray was sleeping and stole all his positive energy, that why Nole is sailing high and Murray is going the other way.
