World No. 2 Novak Djokovic makes his return to action at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami, set to co-headline a talent-flush field of 96 players. The undefeated Serbian start enters the event at 18-0 this season.
Novak Djokovic is slated to begin the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open with sky-high confidence, after winning his third title of the season last Sunday. The 23-year-old, who regained the World No. 2 ranking over Roger Federer, rallied to defeat World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the BNP Paribas Open championship final, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Djokovic has compiled an 18-0 season record, by virtue of additional title-winning runs put together at the Australian Open and Dubai. He is seeded second in Miami, directly behind Rafael Nadal and ahead of Roger Federer. The World No. 2 will be looking to win a second Sony Ericsson Open crown, having captured his first in 2007.
The 23-year-old has an opportunity to collect a host of valuable ranking points this week, with only a second-round finish to defend from 2010 (lost to Rochus).
Djokovic is located in a competitive quarter of the draw that includes: (5) Andy Murray, (9) Fernando Verdasco, (16) Viktor Troicki, (19) Sam Querrey, (24) Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, (27) Thomaz Bellucci and (30) John Isner. Additional players in the same section are: Igor Andreev, Kevin Anderson, James Blake and Bernard Tomic.
After a first-round bye, Djokovic is scheduled to open his bid against either Denis Istomin or qualifier Donald Young. Passage through the early rounds will set a possible round of 16 meeting with compatriot Troicki or Querrey and a likely quarterfinal clash with Murray, whom the World No. 2 took out in the Australian Open final, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.

Nice comercial.
back to the topic, I took part in the pool and voted "no", Novak is not going to win in Miami. But since he lost at the earliest stage last year, I am pretty sure he'll go deeper which will get him more points. Somehow, my feeling is his streak is gonna be broken, maybe by Murray. Btw, Tomic is already out :(

I did not realize Novak and Andy Murray are playing doubles in Miami...wow, I guess Nole is never tired...

natashao, he is running on adrenaline right now and probably doesn't realize he's tired. i'm really hoping against hope that he knows what he's doing and doesn't get exhausted. it's easy to get carried away, and it's so early in the season....

stu, and Nole also played this soccer match last night...he is obviously full of energy...I remember from his last interview he was saying how he needs to play on the endurance side as he is heading towards clay court matches which will be physically exhausting...maybe he wants to get his body used to these type of stresses...the way he is playing, he may end up with easy, short matches again...in that case he may as well afford playing doubles...or he just wants to get used to the conditions in Miami and the surface which is different than IW...or, and this is the tricky one, he wants to have a close look at Murray's game and his current weaknesses...:)

i cant believe he's playing doubles, i thought it was something he hadnt decided tto do, but if theyre in the doubles draw then i guess its happening. maybe its to improve his net game?
i hope he watches his fitness though, i wouldnt like him to lose in the singles due to exhaustion.

Nole and Muzza. LOL! For some reason, this tickles me. That being said, clay season is right around the corner. With the way he's playing now, he's probably going to find himself in finals -- might be best to conserve some energy.

I don,t think he was expecting to win indian wells. bad move on the doubles!. He can,t win in Miami! it isent humanly possible 18 to 0 so far. Federer is more likely to suffer burn out thought! he,s 29 and he is due a slum.
Matty95382 , 3/24/11 6:28 PM
Matty95382, it is "humanly possible", players have won twice as many consecutive matches before! 18 matches over 3 months is not so bad for a pro tennis player, especially considering that most of them were relatively easy wins. Soderling and Berdych, for instance, have played 21 (incl. DC) and 23 matches respectively. In Nole's case, I think there is a risk of emotional exhaustion, rather than physical...
