  • Nadal, Djokovic to detour to Bogota for exho

    3/20/11 3:29 AM | Johan Lindahl
Nadal, Djokovic to detour to Bogota for exho Indian Wells finalists Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will make a quick trip to Colombia, wedging in a one-night exhibition next week between transfers from the Masters 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami.

The pair of multiple Grand Slam winners will being tennis to the South American nation which features just one player - Santiago Giraldo - on the men's Top 100 ranking list.

The event is being hyped to the hilt in Colombia, which rarely gets a chance to see top tennis. The setting will be the capital of Bogota, the date is Monday. The hit-and-giggle for the world No. 1 and 3 will surely be a big-time payday for two of the most bankable current players in the sport.

Nadal and Djokovic are also two of the most in-form current players, with Djokovic looking for a third title from his third 2011 ATP tournament after winning the Australian Open and Dubai. Nadal has yet to lift a trophy this season but is showing his usual impressive form as he bids for a hat-trick of titles at Indian Wells.

Nadal holds a 16-7 lead in the series, with the pair's last meeting a round-robin won by the Spaniard at the London year-end championships.

Will Nadvic take over from Fedal?

nadline , 3/20/11 1:21 PM

Djokodal sounds just as bad as Nadvic so I doubt it.

Nole seems well on his way to knee problems as well judging by the wrap and the stlye of play/movement on hard courts so he may be taking some time off this year unfortunately.

numero, there is nothing wrong with Djoko's knee, the strapping is a fashion statement inscribed with support for Japan, he was asked about it and he said he only called the trainer to borrow a pair of scissors to cut off a bit of tape.

The No 2 ranking is still dangling between Roger and Nole not much in it at the moment, but if Nole keeps it for long enough, just imagine, Federer could have to go through both Nole and Rafa to win a title.

nadline , 3/20/11 2:42 PM

I heard a new one yesterday by a tennis commentator - Djokovic is the right handed version of Nadal.........hilarious. What else wll they come up with?

nadline , 3/20/11 3:34 PM

I believe he started wearing the strap in the final against Murray and in Dubai. It's not hard to believe that he will have knee problems when you look at the way he plays.

numero , 3/20/11 3:56 PM

Nadkovic sounds better. Can you imagine combining Murray with Federer? Murderer!

luckystar , 3/20/11 4:13 PM

LOL, luckystar. i always find these name combinations quite hilarious.

mriiidula , 3/20/11 4:30 PM

luckystar :) :)

croc , 3/21/11 12:18 AM

LOL, luckystar. :-)

mara002 , 3/21/11 8:09 AM

from now on it will sound so hollow if any one of these two players will complain about the long and tiring season...
just a wee detour to bogota, it is almost on the way from california to miami...

luckystar , 3/20/11 4:13 PM

So funny. That's why that combination will never happen.

nadline , 3/21/11 11:05 AM

Nadalovic :)

Ugljesa , 3/21/11 2:50 PM

We wish to thank colombian narco barons for make this exibition match possible.

R.N. & N.D.

DomingoCol , 3/21/11 3:31 PM

rasist comment!

croc , 3/21/11 3:43 PM

Nadalovic is not that bad!

vrael , 3/21/11 4:21 PM

I would love a Nadalovic era, it would mean Rafa had transcended 2 eras.

Yes, Nadalovic, bring it on.

nadline , 3/21/11 5:50 PM

A live evidence that Rafa and Nole are on the court in Colombia:

The match started around 5 minutes ago.

Augustina08 , 3/21/11 11:42 PM

croc, 3/21/11 10:56 AM,

You seem to be on a roll with your witty comments. Yes, it's definitely not a bit out of the way to have a brief stopover in Bogota!:)

Nativenewyorker , 3/21/11 11:47 PM

Does anyone know which surface is there? Probably it is clay... and I simply can't imagine how it will look drawing court lines in Colombia :) Just hope they will use chalk, and they won't end match on a "high note" :)

atg , 3/22/11 12:44 AM

I watched the match. The match seemed to be relaxing rather than doing work. They had a lot of fun. The final score: Rafa vs.Nole: 7/6(5), 6/3.

They played on an indoor hard surface.

nadline and other Rafa fans - what would you give to see Rafa salsa?

stu , 3/22/11 3:33 AM

stu,

WOW!! I don't know how you found this, but I loved, loved it! You know, I think Rafa has some rhythm in those moves. He seemed a bit self-conscious, but was having some fun. I wanted to see more!

Thanks for the link! :)

Nativenewyorker , 3/22/11 4:25 AM

NNY, I've seen YouTubes of Rafa dancing before. This is definitely an improvement, LOL.

(Though the *real* dancing feet in the Armada belong to Feli. I'll have to see if I can find a copy of the first clip I ever saw. Boy is too fierce; I'd be scared to dance with him, LOL.)

mara002 , 3/22/11 5:05 AM

I found a clip of the entire exho two set match with Rafa and Nole in Bogota. Also, they showed the two of them getting sombreros and other things and Rafa made a speech in Spanish, which the crowd loved.

I don't know if it's okay to post it here, because it's from another forum. Cheryl, mentioned something a while back about certain rules for posting links from other sites. Do I have permission to post this one? I think Rafa and Nole fans would love to see it.

Rafa in a sombrero! So cute!

mara002,

I thought Rafa showed some nice moves. I have never seen Feli dance. I would love to see it. Do you know the rules about posting videos on the site?

Nativenewyorker , 3/22/11 6:43 AM

Meanwhile, I post highlights of the event (the video quality is not good):

Murderer. Hilarious ROFL moment. Wish I had thought of that one.

ed251137 , 3/22/11 10:10 AM

"murderer"!!!!!...........lol!!!!!!!!!!...........luckystar, ure the best!!!

I saw the match in Bogota..........i still cant understand how Rafa lost that mtch on Sunday, but i guess he cant win them all.

The fans love Rafa so much........they were supporting him so much even if it was a exho, and they all crowded him for his autograph!!! Gosh, it was s sight to see! They just love him out there! So much so, there was a time during the game that Nole actually had to raise his hands in the air to summon support for himself but it was so funny the crowd just went wild. All in all, it was great fun!!

Rafa and Djoko both looked great in their sombreros!!!!! Rafa is certainly, if not yet, the greatest embassador of the sport!!!

VAMOS Rafa!!!

Good luck in Miami!!!

Monalysa , 3/22/11 3:42 PM

Monalysa, you can't compare the Bogota exho and the IW final! Obviously the pressure was off, for both, and I think Rafa may be a bit more competitive even when it does not matter, whereas Novak channels his inner goofball at exhos...

stu , 3/22/11 3:51 PM

Stu, was not comparing them, it was just an after thought, really!

But it is true though, I just was stunned when i found out.........dont care how well Novak is playing!!!!

Monalysa , 3/22/11 5:01 PM

Hey NNY ,just give us the keywords so we can google and find the link ourselves.

holdserve , 3/22/11 5:49 PM

As for Rafa's dancing, he has said that he is a good latin music dancer.

<<Question: Rafa, I used to play tennis but I quit when I was 13 to follow dance instead. Can you dance or even move your body to beat of the music? (Tisca Rajiv, Melbourne)

Rafa: I am a good latin music dancer, but not much more. >>

Here is the actual link of the full video of the exho match with Rafa and Nole and the post match speeches and the sombreros given to both players. It's about thirty minutes long.

Thanks for the link!

The online newspaper Diario de Mallorca writes that N.Djokovic requested to play Shakira's "Gypsy" 'to blush Nadal.' :)

Augustina08 , 3/22/11 11:15 PM

I noticed Nole, Rafa and some of the soccer lovers are going to play an exho/charity match for Japan against a Ft. Lauderdale pro team on Wednesday. These guys are going to be tired after all this.

Luckily Roger is out of these exhos.

numero , 3/23/11 1:02 AM

exhibition is fun, good for mentality.... players will become more down to earth and accept the real.... Roger needs this more...

nadline , 3/23/11 9:00 AM

Stu, I couldn't thank you enough.

nadline , 3/23/11 9:04 AM

NNY, thanks for the link, thoroughly enjoyed it and nice to see Rafa looking so cheerful again, he was downright miserable throughout IW. Pity I didn't get to see him in the sombrero.

nadline , 3/23/11 11:16 AM
