World No. 1 Rafael Nadal is through to the BNP Paribas Open quarterfinal, after defeating qualifier Somdev Devvarman in straight sets Wednesday evening. The top seed will next face Ivo Karlovic, who downed Albert Montanes.

World No. 1 Rafael Nadal overcame a slow start to his round of 16 match, having upended qualifier Somdev Devvarman in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. The 24-year-old dug out of a 0-2 opening-set deficit, before securing his third set point at 6-5.
The players contested a close second set, with neither earning a service break until 5-4. Nadal reached triple match point in the 10th game, then closed the one-hour and 54-minute match with a well-timed forehand pass.
Ivo Karlovic def. (23) Albert Montanes 7-6(7), 6-2
World No. 239 Ivo Karlovic made the final eight, by virtue of his straight-set win against 23rd seed Albert Montanes Wednesday afternoon. The 32-year-old tallied 16 aces and two service breaks en route to a 7-6(7), 6-2 victory in 93 minutes.
With the round of 16 success, the former World No. 14 is through to his first quarterfinal since reaching the same stage in Doha.
