Despite picking up a painful groin injury, Tommy Robredo demolished American Sam Querrey in straight sets to advance to the Indian Wells quarterfinals.
Sam Querrey put on a dismal display of tennis to lose badly to injured Spaniard Tommy Robredo. The American was all over the place in the first set. Serving at 39%, Querrey couldn’t seem to buy himself a first serve, and he only had one ace for the entire set.
Robredo played well off the baseline, but he really only needed to keep the ball in play, as Querrey obliged with so many errors. The American was broken 3 times in the first set alone.
The second set was closer, but that is almost exclusively due to the groin injury that Robredo picked up halfway through the set. And even with the Spaniard’s movement severely limited, Querrey still couldn’t put anything together.
If Robredo is healthy enough to do so, he will play Juan Martin Del Potro in the quarterfinals.

Querrey is just playing dismally bad right now. That was a truly dreadful performance.

He has been playing dismally bad for as long as I remember, he has won a minor title here and a small title there but that's about it, his results at the majors have been even worse.

Anyone knows how bad is Tommy´s groin injury??
OFAHfirm , 3/17/11 4:40 PM
how bad does this make Verdasco look?
as for Querrey, I really have no words for that guy anymore
OFAHfirm - bad enough so that he has no chance against Del Potro

So bad that he's not playing today and looks like he will be out of Miami. Too bad Tommy.

Well, I think it's a bit of a shame that he didn't withdraw b4 and at least give Sam a shot at Delpotro.

deuce: I agree with you on Robredo. Sam would have done better than just give the Delboy a w/o.
I noticed it was mentioned that DePotro was bothered by the heat, how so? It was a very cool day. Yes, he was doing his usual, whenever he meets a good competitor, stall for time with the trainer, but it worked admirably, and he won the tb. This guy has some good luck going for him. In Toronto two years ago, he had a w/o and then got to the SF, while his other SF opponent had to battle Querry, and Isner, plus playing the last match at night, so naturally, DelPotro won. Now, he's gotten a day off again! Watch for him do his stall and, sput, sput, to get the 'W".

Well Querrey did pretty much give Robredo a w/o with his performance, besides with ranking points and prize money involved it's understandable that he didn't withdraw against Querrey

Yes, I agree Sam didn't do anything much, but he had a better chance to go further intourney, as he was healthy, But, who knows, maybe Sam could have done better vs. DelPotro, who I'm sure, was running on fues. Differen t player = maybe a win for Sam? I guess the points and money is a good reason to keep on playing with an injury, but isn't that more detrimental for Robredo in the future? for example, he was hurting prior to meeting Sam, and now his chances for playing in Miami are questionable. It's like six of one, and a half-dozen of the other .... catch 22.
