Andy Roddick will bid for a line in the record books as the American makes a summer bid for a record fifth title at the Queen's club event, prime fifth tuneup for Wimbledon.
No. 8 Roddick will face major opposition though from Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the bid to become the first ever to win five in west London.
“Over the years I’ve had a lot of success at The Queen’s Club, it has real tradition and I love the whole month in London,” said Roddick. “Queen's has the best grass courts in the world, they play perfectly and so is a great way to prepare for Wimbledon."
The event begins a fortnight before Wimbledon on June 6. Roddick lifted the trophy in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007 but has stalled in the semi-finals in two of the last three editions. He lost in the third round last year to Israeli outsider Dudi Sela.
He and John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Lleyton Hewitt, Roy Emerson are the major modern-era players to have won four title on the lawns of the club.
Roddick will hope to be a full strength after his 2010 loss when he suffered from glandular fever, losing a Wimbledon fourth round as well after reaching three finals at the Grand Slam. Roddick has finished inside the ATP Top 10 every year since 2002 and already owns a 2011 honour from Memphis last month.
