One old pro will fill for a former hated arch-rival in Zurich as Ivan Lendl replaces 1980s nemesis John McEnroe at the weekend's senior event.
The event will also feature the first meeting in a dozen years between Pete Sampras against Goran Ivanisevic in a reprise showdown between popular former Wimbledon winners and a re-run of 1994 and 1998 All England club classic finals.
Mac phoned in his regrets over a twisted ankle to the tournament which also had to call upon Mark Philippoussis to take the place of Swede Stefan Edberg, another injury victim before the start.
The evergreen McEnroe's latest pull was only his second in a seniors career spanning a decade. One of the opponents in Lendl's round-robin group will be former British tennis hero Tim Henman, "When I was just starting out my career he was just finishing," said Henman. "So I haven’t played with him before and I’m looking forward to that.
"Obviously it’s disappointing that McEnroe can’t play but Lendl is a fantastic replacement. He’s one of the all-time greats so it’s good to see him back playing tennis again and to see him in Zurich."
