  • Federer, Sampras have VIP hit in LA

    3/6/11 2:54 AM | Johan Lindahl
Federer, Sampras have VIP hit in LA Roger Federer made a quiet mid-week transfer from his Gulf base of Dubai into the heart of LA, with the Swiss starting his preparation for next week's start of the Indian Wells Masters by having a VIP hit with former great Pete Sampras.

The two-generations of tennis supermen boasted a combined 30 Grand Slam titles and 11 year-end No, 1 rankings on the same court. Federer will shortly make the move 200 kilometers east out to Indian Wells in the desert.

Federer, losing finalist at the weekend to Novak Djokovic at the Dubai ATP event, is now back working with the second half of his tag-team set of coaches. Paul Annacone will be on hard all month for the hardcourt run through California and Miami.

The Swiss world No. 2 says he will have to work to adjust to the somewhat unique conditions at Indian Wells. "The ball's going to be flying but the court is going to be slower.

"It's going to be a challenge to balance those two things in Indian Wells. Miami is going to be really slow, they've really slowed down conditions there drastically over the years. And with the humidity the ball doesn't fly as much.

"I really feel like I need some good practise, just a lot of hitting, exercises, then maybe also some more points."
