    3/3/11 9:04 PM | Kelli DeMario
Nalbandian opens tie against Ungur David Nalbandian will attempt to earn the first point for host nation Argentina, as he faces Adrian Ungur in singles competition. Compatriot Juan Monaco is set for a singles rubber against Victor Hanescu later in the day.

    David Nalbandian vs. Adrian Ungur

World No. 19 David Nalbandian is bidding for his 31st career victory in Davis Cup competition. The 29-year-old has compiled an 8-4 season record on the ATP World Tour, aided by a runner-up finish in Auckland. The Argentine, set to play his 20th Davis Cup tie, makes his return to action after making the quarterfinal in Buenos Aires.

World No. 183 Adrian Ungur is 2-1 in Davis Cup competition through two appearances. The 26-year-old has struggled at Tour-level this season, having failed to qualify in Melbourne, Costa do Sauipe and Buenos Aires. After a successful pass through the qualifying rounds in Acapulco, Ungur fell to World No. 6 David Ferrer in the opening round.

Predicted winner: Nalbandian in straight sets. The veteran called his quest for a Davis Cup title an “obsession.” Expect him to take the first point for Argentina on Friday.

    Juan Monaco vs. Victor Hanescu

World No. 33 Juan Monaco is level at 1-1 with World No. 59 Victor Hanescu. The two last met at the 2010 Masters 1000 Rome, where a second-round match went to the Romanian in straight sets.

Monaco is 2-4 in Davis Cup ties since his debut in 2004. The 26-year-old has compiled a 5-5 record in 2011, following back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in Buenos Aires and Acapulco.

World No. 59 Victor Hanescu will be contesting his 19th Davis Cup tie this weekend. The 29-year-old is 16-15 overall since his 2001 debut. Hanescu has endured a difficult start to the 2011 season, having yet to win two consecutive matches.

Predicted winner: Monaco in four sets. Hanescu might normally be a slight favorite on clay, but the veteran is a poor 2-6 heading into the tie. Monaco looks to be in better form with two recent quarterfinal berths collected on clay.
