Spain’s David Ferrer came back from a set deficit to defeat Alexandr Dolgopolov in three. Ferrer will move into the final against Nicolas Almagro.
Alexandr Dolgopolov started off strong against top seed David Ferrer. The Ukrainian youngster jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set. He was not able to completely hold off the world-class return of David Ferrer. The Spaniard was able to secure the service break back from Dolgopolov, but he was surprised again serving to send the set to a tiebreaker, and Dolgopolov took the lead in the match.
Ferrer breezed through the second set. Dolgopolov did not have a whiff at a service break and Ferrer’s return game was once again on fire. He held the Ukrainian to just one game.
Dolgopolov looked to be back on track at the start of the third. Ferrer served first and quickly got in a 0-40 hole. The Spaniard buckled down though and managed to hold. It was all downhill for Dolgopolov from there. He held serve in his next service game, but went on to lose the next 5.
The win sends David Ferrer into the final against his in-form countryman Nicolas Almagro.
