World No. 16 Mardy Fish made his second consecutive semifinal, following his 6-1, 6-4 quarterfinal victory over Alejandro Falla Friday evening. The 2009 Delray Beach champion, who converted three of 11 break point chances, tallied 6 aces and 9 straight service games through 86 minutes of play.
Fish is slated to take on fifth seed Kevin Anderson or wildcard Juan Martin Del Potro in the semifinal.
(6) Janko Tipsarevic def. Ivan Dodig 7-6(0), 6-1
Sixth seed Janko Tipsarevic advanced to the semifinal Friday afternoon, having ousted Ivan Dodig in straight sets, 7-6(0), 6-1. After winning taking six consecutive points in a first-set tie-break, the Serbian led 3-0 in the second set. He completed the 79-minute match with 4 aces and 32 of 38 first-service points captured.
"When the tie-break started, I just kept saying to myself that it’s really important that I start well," Tipsarevic explained. "That’s what happened. After 3-0, he made two or three unforced errors and he was done really fast.
"I’m really not trying to think about (taking my first ATP World Tour title), even though it’s there in my mind. I think I have the quality to have an ATP title under my belt, but it just hasn’t happened for me yet. The main problem would be the consistency following me over the course of my career."
Tipsarevic will meet Kei Nishikori for a place in the final. The 2008 Delray Beach champion rallied to upend American qualifier Ryan Sweeting early Friday, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4.
