Novak Djokovic's Dubai title defense is off to a strong start after hammering Michael Llodra on Tuesday. Djokovic is joined in the second round by Nikolay Davydenko, a blowout winner over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
(2) Novak Djokovic d. Michael Llodra 6-3, 6-3
Djokovic, the two-time defending Dubai Duty Free Championships champion, made an impressive start to the 2011 tournament by crushing Llodra in just one hour and three minutes on Tuesday. Djokovic never dropped serve and had no trouble handling his opponent's serves, even when Llodra put in his first deliveries. The second-seeded Serb won more than 40 percent of both his first and second-serve return points.
Djokovic dropped only five service points in the opening set, so two service breaks of his own were easily enough for him to take an early advantage. After finishing the set with a break at 5-3, the world No. 3 maintained the momentum throughout the second frame of play. Llodra raised his level slightly and did a much better job taking care of his serve, but one break allowed Djokovic to close out the match at 5-3. Next up for Djokovic is Feliciano Lopez, a winner via retirement over Yen-Hsun Lu.
Nikolay Davydenko d. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-0
Davydenko put an even bigger beatdown on Garcia-Lopez during first-round action in Dubai, advancing in a mere 57 minutes. Garcia-Lopez actually broke Davydenko once, but he was nothing short of abysmal on serve. The Spaniard held only one of seven service games while winning fewer than 40 percent of his first-serve points and fewer than 30 percent of his second-serve points.
Davydenko did not serve particularly well nor did he have to do anything more than just put it in play, but he completely outclassed his opponent from the baseline. The unseeded Russian recorded one ace and one double-fault en route to a second-round meeting with Tomas Berdych.
