A stubborn set of injuries and bad luck have forced Mario Ancic into premature retirement from the ATP at age 26, with the Croatian heir to Goran Ivanisevic now set to take up the practise of law.
Ancic has been troubled by injury and illness for several seasons, finally packing in his career due to chronic back troubles. He also fought off a case of glandular fever and last played regularly on the ATP in the 2008 season. He competed on his nation's 200 Davis Cup championships side which beat Slovakia.
His last appearance on the circuit was a first-round loss in Munich last May to Austrian Daniel Koellerer. The one-time No. 7 and 2004 Wimbledon semi-finalist has found a new professional life at a law firm in Croatia after graduating university - an alternative career choice he made during his increasing months of down time.
"I can't stand it any more," he old local media. "I've finished my career. I'm forced to quit because nature has decided it's time. My back can't withstand the effort of professional tennis."

It is a shame.
It's so difficult to become a professional sports person that to leave it at 26 must be heart breaking. Luckily he also has brains and can now start a new ball-playing game.
Thanks Ancic for your tennis and all the best.

He beat Federer in the 1st round at Wimbledon in 2002 in straight sets. That's something for him to tell his grandchildren one day.
It's tough when you have to retire not because you want to. I wish him all the best in his new career.

He was really good player but no one can go against the nature since his body can't stand the pressure of being a professional player he has to quite.
I dont think there is any shame to retire early at 26 because these things are not in players hand, if their body cant handle it, then they should choose alternate career as Ancic has done.
Wishing him Luck for his future.

What an absolute shame. I'm so sorry to hear this. 26 is too young for someone to give up his sporting career. Unfortunately these things happen, and not just in tennis. Wish Ancic all the best in his law firm, that does sound interesting!
