    2/20/11 5:20 AM | Ricky Dimon
Soderling rolls, Cilic saves match point Robin Soderling defeats Dmitry Tursunov in straight sets on Saturday at the Open 13. Marin Cilic advances in far less routine fashion, saving a match point against Mikhail Youzhny.

    (1) Robin Soderling d. Dmitry Tursunov 7-5, 6-1

Soderling was tested early but won eight of the last nine games to erase Tursunov in the semifinals of the Open 13 on Saturday. Tursunov made it competitive early, as no break points were seen throughout the first 11 games of the match. The 129th-ranked Russian, though, cracked with the pressure on at 5-5. Soderling converted the first chance of the day for a one-set advantage.

From there it was full steam ahead for the fourth-ranked Swede. Soderling dropped only five points in his last four service games, so to two breaks were more than enough for him to close things out at 5-1. He finished with 11 aces and two double-faults while Tursunov wrapped up his effort with five aces and six doubles. Tursunov was doomed by serving at just 37 percent in set two.

    Marin Cilic d. (3) Mikhail Youzhny 6-2, 1-6, 7-5

Cilic fought off one match point before storming back to upset Youzhny after two hours and six minutes of play on Saturday. It was Cilic who had the early lead, as he won 13 of 15 first-serve points in the opening set and earned two breaks. Youzhny recovered to dominate the second, losing a mere four points in four service games while seizing two breaks of his own.

The 11th-ranked Russian maintained the momentum with a quick break in the third. He built the lead up to 5-3, which set the stage for Cilic to save match point at 30-40. Youzhny then folded while serving for the win at 5-4. Cilic broke to stay alive and did not look back, holding easily before breaking again with a crushing backhand to seal the victory. The 28th-ranked Croat recorded 12 aces and double-faulted three times en route to a berth in Sunday's final.
