World No. 8 Andy Roddick is through to the final four in Memphis, after rallying to down former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt Friday evening. With the quarterfinal win, the American pulled ahead to 7-6 in their head-to-head series.
Two-time champion Andy Roddick advanced to his second semifinal of the season, following his three-set victory over familiar opponent Lleyton Hewitt. The top seed fired 21 aces en route to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 success in two hours and 13 minutes of competition.
After leveling the match at a set apiece, Roddick went ahead 2-0 in the deciding set. A routine set reached 5-3 for the American, who missed four match points on the Hewitt serve. Roddick failed to convert two additional match points at 5-4, but closed with an ace on number seven.
“(Hewitt) played better early," Roddick explained. "I haven’t gotten off to great starts in two of my three matches, so I’m going to have to start playing better from the get-go. But a match can turn quickly and it did tonight. The end of the second set and the third set was probably the best I’ve played in the tournament so far.
“I’ve been trying to drive my forehand and it’s been kind of spotty at the beginning of matches but once I find my range it’s been landing a little bit. I have to find a way to get it going early in matches.”
The 28-year-old ended the match with 46 of 58 first-service points captured.
He is slated to face Juan Martin Del Potro for a spot in the final. The Argentine came through his quarterfinal with qualifier Michael Russell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

I like Rusty too for his tenacity, but not when he's playing vs. Roddick. Happy that Andy came out the victor!

Congrats to Roddick for the win, Delpo next. Should be an interesting match.
I like the way Hewitt played, he's such a warrior. Too bad one of them has to lose. Hope Roddick can win this tournament and get a win over Delpo in the SF after losing to him the last few times.
