Former World No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro made the round of 16 at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships with a straight-set victory over 2010 finalist John Isner. The Argentine improved to 6-3 for the season.
Juan Martin Del Potro extended his series lead to 3-0 against sixth seed John Isner late Wednesday evening. The 22-year-old wildcard held 9 consecutive service games en route to an opening-round victory in 74 minutes, 6-4, 6-3.
Del Potro snagged a key break of serve at 3-3 in the opening set. Isner came back to hold triple break point at 4-5, but failed to convert. After missing his first set point, the Argentine closed to 6-4 in 42 minutes.
Del Potro continued his effort to 2-0 in the second set. The 22-year-old passed through the set untroubled to 5-3. A final service break came in game nine for Del Potro, who completed the night with 8 aces and 27 of 33 first-service points won.
He is scheduled to square off against Ivan Dodig for a place in the quarterfinal. Dodig rallied to defeat veteran Rainer Schuettler in the first round, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Del Potro beat Dodig. The big guy is progressing well. Tennis this year is likely to be exceiting. So many possibilities to watch out for.

Ouch for John Isner, since he was a finalist last year. Looks like Delpo is continuing to get his form back.
