Jo-Wilfried Tsonga comes back from a set deficit to beat Sergiy Stakhovsky on Wednesday in Marseille. Ivan Ljubicic also advances with a win over Andrey Golubev.
(6) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga d. Sergiy Stakhovsky 5-7, 6-4, 6-2
Playing for the third time in four days, Tsonga followed up his first-round Open 13 win over Benoit Paire with a three-set victory at Stakhovsky's expense on Wednesday. It was Stakhovsky, however, who came out of the gates fast. The Ukrainian did not face a break point throughout the opening frame of play and he struck at 6-5 for an early advantage.
The tide turned late in set two, though, as Tsonga seized his first break of the afternoon and served out the second at 5-4. Stakhovsky showed no signs of recovering in the third, winning only four points in four return games and losing more than half of his service points. A final routine hold at 5-4 allowed Tsonga to advance after one hour and 49 minutes.
Tsonga, who fell to Robin Soderling in last Sunday's Rotterdam final, wrapped up his effort with 11 aces and one double-fault while winning 44 of 50 first-serve points. Stakhovsky also fired 11 aces without double-faulting. Next up for the 16th-ranked Frenchman is a quarterfinal date with either Mikhail Youzhny or Gilles Simon.
(5) Ivan Ljubicic d. Andrey Golubev 6-4, 6-2
Ljubicic's Marseille campaign got off to a routine start as he dismissed Golubev in just one hour and five minutes on Wednesday. The fifth-seeded Croat held all nine of his service games and faced only one break point while winning 26 of 30 first-serve points. Golubev, who has not won an ATP main-draw match in 2011, fired only one ace and double-faulted four times. The unseeded Kazakh managed to save just three of six break points. Next up for Ljubicic is Dmitry Tursunov.

Very entertaining match. Love the way Stakhovsky plays, both players running all over the court, mixing things up nicely at the baseline and at the net. Love Stakhovsky's net play as well, some deft touches and nice little slices at the net. I know when it goes the distance, Tsonga would win; Stakhovsky lacks the stamina and consistency when it goes the distance. He needs more power to his game, to match Tsonga's power.
