Former champion David Nalbandian made a successful start to the Copa Claro, having downed Potito Starace in the opening round. The Argentine is joined by compatriot Jose Acasuso, who upset seventh seed Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Third seed David Nalbandian improved to 4-0 over first-round opponent Potito Starace Tuesday evening. The 2008 Buenos Aires champion secured three of 5 break points en route to a 6-4, 6-4 win in 76 minutes. The Argentine earned a key service break at 4-4 in the opening set, then led 2-1 in the second. After relinquishing the break, the 29-year-old regained control to 4-3. A well-timed dropshot winner sealed the match in straight sets.
Nalbandian will face qualifier Juan Pablo Brzezicki in the next round. The Argentine upended Filippo Volandri in the opening round, 6-1, 6-3.

Wildcard Jose Acasuso won his first ATP World Tour match in more than a year, having upset 7th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov late Tuesday. The 28-year-old Argentine, ranked World No. 256, has not secured a Tour-level victory since the 2010 Movistar Open. After taking the opening set in 30 minutes, the Acasuso led 2-0 in the second set. He saved two break points at 5-4, then closed at the 75-minute mark.
Acasuso is slated to meet Pablo Cuevas for a place in the quarterfinal. The Uruguayan rallied to defeat Lukas Kubot in the first round, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
