No. 6 seed Tommy Robredo made a successful start in Buenos Aires with a straight-set victory over Maximo Gonzalez.
Santiago champion Tommy Robredo got off to a good start at the Copa Claro event with a victory over Argentine Maximo Gonzalez.
Robredo has already proven that he is a force to be reckoned with in Buenos Aires. The Spaniard won this event the last time he played here in 2009.
The Spaniard did all of the breaking in this match. He had a pair of break point chances in the first set, but he was not able to convert until the very tail-end of the set.
The second set featured a much more dominant Robredo. Early breaks allowed the Spaniard to seal up the match in just over an hour and a half.
Fabio Fognini of Italy will join Robredo in the second round. The Italian lost the first set badly to Frederico Gil of Portugal, but he righted the ship in time to win in 3.
