  • Rotterdam - Soderling pulls off dramatic win over Kohlschreiber

    2/11/11 2:03 AM | Cheryl Murray
Rotterdam - Soderling pulls off dramatic win over Kohlschreiber Robin Soderling saved a match point in this dramatic second-round encounter against Philipp Kohlschreiber. The win is Soderling’s first over the German.

This was easily the match of the tournament so far in terms of drama. The first set was slightly sloppy from Kohlschreiber, who surrendered a pair of service breaks, but the rest of the match was a real battle from both men.

The second set remained on serve until Soderling served to force the tiebreaker. The German secured the only break of the set to level the match and force a decider.

Most of the drama in the match happened in the third set. The two men traded breaks of serve and for the third time in four meetings, their match ended in a tiebreaker.

Soderling earned match points first at 4-6. The German saved the first of two match points with a brilliant backhand, and after reeling off 3 straight points, Kohlschreiber earned a match point of his own at 7-6, though it was on Soderling’s serve. The Swede crushed a forehand for 7-7 and won the next two points to earn his first win over Kohlschreiber.

there are more matches before sunday. am hoping for ljubicic in the final.

ljubicic has such a strong mind, he's given murray many brushings, murray could learn a lot from him.

Ljubicic, it's more like the man is playing chess than tennis. he's amazing.

My goodness croc, didn't expect that! U may get your wish after all. Stil like Tsonga's form at the mo. though, playing better than I've seen for ages and looks slimmer to me, so quicker round court.

deuce, my guess also that tsonga will take out ljubi the morra, i'm afraid. a 30 year old doesn't have the capability to recover that well, and tsonga had a wo in his qf.

ljubicic looked tired already the day against baghdatis, he was making every point short if he could. i missed the third set, but impressive he managed to fight it through and come out victorious.

correction: ljubicic, of course, didn't LOOK tired, he doesn't give away something like that. such a professional! murray could learn from him!
