Juan Ignacio Chela crushes Brazilian hope Thomaz Bellucci on Thursday in Costa do Sauipe. Chela is through to the semifinals along with Nicolas Almagro.
(5) Juan Ignacio Chela d. (3) Thomaz Bellucci 6-1, 6-2
Chela thoroughly dominated Belucci in just one hour and 20 minutes on Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Brasil Open. The 31-year-old Argentine simply continued his winning ways, having captured a pair of clay-court titles in 2010 and now extending his 2011 record to 6-3.
To the dismay of the Brazilian fans, Bellucci never had a chance in this one. The world No. 37 held only three of seven service games and did not break Chela a single time. Bellucci squandered one break chance in the first set and two break-point opportunities in the second. Chela served out the opening frame of play at 5-1 and did the same in set two at 5-2 to set up a semifinal clash with Nicolas Almagro.
(1) Nicolas Almagro d. Rui Machado 6-4, 6-2
Almagro has lost only 10 games en route to the Costa do Sauipe semis. This week's top seed got a first-round bye, hammered Joao Souza in round two, and rolled over Machado in one hour and 26 minutes on Thursday.
Fortunately for Almagro his baseline game was in strong form, because he struggled immensely on serve. The 12th-ranked Spaniard fired 10 aces, but he double-faulted a ridiculous nine times and allowed Machado to break twice. Nonetheless, Almagro consistently abused his opponent's second serve and five breaks were more than enough for the favorite to advance in routine fashion.

That was a bit of a shock. I expected to see him, if not in the final, at least against Nico in the semis.

Well that score-line seems a little embarrassing for Bellucci.
